ctivity 5 Essay:
What do you think is the current trend of Philippine Architecture? Is there still a
hope for Filipino architecture to fully realize indigenization and a national identity and
be source of pride among ordinary Filipinos? How can you help achieve the
aspiration?
Architecture is often overlooked and we don’t often think about the elements that make it
good. Architecture is the most public and socially dangerous art. The buildings that
we create will outlive us; they will stand testament of our time.

This is a strong sentiment among many Filipinos since we as a people are continuously looking for
our identity as a nation. We are one young nation. Global influences have
continuously assimilated with our local culture. National identity, I believe, is taking

National architecture for me is architecture that can bring a community together
because of good planning, architecture, and design. We can also highlight Filipino
hospitality in planning and design, in such a way that buildings, places, and
communities encourage social interaction and care for one another, even if the
people are strangers to each other. This, I believe, is the global Filipino way.

1.4 Give a brief background/ life history of the composer.
Joaquin Francisco Sanchez, more known as the pop singer, Keno, was
quite popular for a brief time in the mid to late 80s, so much so that many
considered him next in line to Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano.
He started his career in opera but switched to popular music, coming out
with the song “Leaving Yesterday Behind” in 1986. Soon after, he was cast in his
first—and only – movie, Viva films’ “Ninja Kids.”
He became ALIW Awards’ most promising entertainer of the year (1987),
going on to become an endorser of Pepsi-Cola.
Keno announced his retirement from showbiz following a concert at the
ULTRAstadium in 1991. He now works as crisis counselor in an in-patient

TO ALWAYS FOCUS ON THE PRESENT AND LEAVING WHAT THE PAST HAS
OFFERED.
1.6 What is the most noticeable element of music? MELODY
1.7 What kind of music it is? LOVE SONG
1.8 What common musical instrument used? PIANO
1.9 What particular line or stanza that attracted you most? and why?
“And think about today, I’m leaving yesterday behind cause now I’ll try to live my life
once more, as I always did before”. For me, this is the main line that the song wanted to
emphasize. As I interpreted it on my own, it simply shows that we should focus on what is
today, we should work hard to make a brighter day, for everyday is always a great day.
1.10 How does the song touches your heart and soul? Expound your answer.
It reminds me of yesterday, it reflects my happy memories together with my loved ones
who departed. Since, the past is just a memory, I should look forward seeing myself happy of
the life that today has offered me. I would be more grateful to enjoy it, work hard for it and
make another memories that would be added on the collection of my memories.

Black-out Poetry
Blackout poetry is when a page of text, usually an article from a newspaper,
is completely blacked off (colored over with a permanent marker so that it is no
longer visible) except for a selected few words. When only these words are visible,
a brand-new story is created from the existing text.
Direction: Get an old newspaper, permanent marker, a
work space and your imagination.
1. In a newspaper start the process by finding a word that pops off the page
to you. .
2. Start looking for other words to go along with it to form not just a sentence,
but a thought or an idea. Try to evoke an emotion from the words that you
pick.
3. Once you found the words, grab your marker to outline the words.
4. Create a fine boarder around your chosen words so you don’t accidentally
draw inside the border and potentially cover up the words.
5. Start blacking out the rest of the page.
6. The words that you found will serve as the title of the script that you will
make for the assessment.
7. Paste your output (portion of the newspaper with blackout words) on the
box provided.

Black out Poetry
1. Using your imagination, emotion, and learnings from the above discussion,
create a short story in not less than 300 words. Use the words you picked from the
blackout activity as the title of your short story.
The story began when I was a child; I was a son of a poor family. We did not
even have enough food. When ever meal times came, mother would often give
me her portion of rice. While she was removing her rice into my bowl, she
would say “Eat this rice, son. I’m not hungry.”
That was Mother’s First Lie.
When I was growing up, my mother gave up her spare time to go fishing in
a river near our house. She hoped that from the fish she caught, she could give
me a little bit of nutritious food for my growth. After fishing, she would cook
some fresh fish soup. While I was eating, Mother would sit beside me and eat
the meat from the scraps. I offered my soup to her, but she immediately refused
and said, “Eat your fish, son. I don’t really like fish.”
That was Mother’s Second Lie.

Theatre Enthusiasm
2. Using your internet watch in a YouTube a theatre performance. Prepare a
synopsis of the presentation and draw a particular object that can illustrate your
thoughts/feelings and make a write up of your overall impression of the theatre
performance. Elaborate your answer.
The theater performance entitled IBONG ADARNA.
The technical designers and crew had their work cut out with the huge challenge
of staging a story that involved adventure and magic to meet the demanding
standards of today's tech-savvy children. Very important in this aspect was the
fluid stage, the colorful fusion-type costumes with hair and makeup, the critically
vital lighting design and the rousing choreography. There was variation in
techniques -- from shadow play, puppetry to ballet dancing -- to spice up the
story-telling for the kids.
All the energetic performances of the cast, the delightful songs, the wacky juvenile
humor and kiddie interactions, the magical stage effects, and of course, that
all-important moral lesson at the end.
