Home moving preparation and packing instructions

When the movers arrive at your home it should look like the photos below. Everything should be ready for
the movers to pick up and carry out of the house (unless you have hired our packing-into-boxes service or
are moving long distance, i.e. YGN to MDY). Do not over-fill boxes or the movers will be unable to lift them.

Fragile

1. Move your personal laptop, computer and printer to your new home yourself, do not pack computers or
printers into a box. Remove the ink and toner from printers prior to moving. Please note below
disclaimer on loss, damage, and the optional purchase of insurance.

2. Totally empty and pack the contents of all desks, wardrobes, credenzas, bookcases, storage cabinets,
kitchen cabinets, etc. If you wish to save time and money on your move day completely disassemble all
large furniture prior to the movers’ arrival, i.e. beds, wardrobes, etc. If possible identify the items being
moved (or left behind) by marking them with colored Post-it notes or stickers.

3. Remove pictures, sheets, food, kitchenware, clothing, etc. Place items inside boxes, bags, luggage, etc.
When packing boxes fill them to the top for increased strength and rigidity, fill any empty space with
crumpled paper. Seal each full box with tape and write the basic items and room on the box to make it
easy to identify later. As detailed below in [A – H] use extra caution to pack and label fragile boxes of
glassware, stemware, vases, electronics, small appliances, etc. Use a lot packing paper when packing
fragile items. Please note below disclaimer on loss, damage, and the optional purchase of insurance.
A. Prepare every fragile box by filling the bottom of the box with a layer of crumpled packing paper
thus creating a soft cushion of protection.
B. Wrap each item individually with one or more sheet(s) of packing paper. Lay the item near the
corner of a sheet of paper, and wrap diagonally, tucking in the ends of the paper as you go.
C. Once wrapped, place items into the prepared medium box in rows. Place the heaviest items on
the bottom of the box and the lighter objects near the top of the box.
D. Plates and bowls should be loaded into the box on their side – do not lay them flat. Cups and
glasses should be loaded standing up – do not lay them on their side.

E. Once you have filled one layer of wrapped items in the box, put down another layer of crumpled
paper on top of the items-layer before you begin loading the next items-layer of the box.
F. When you are done loading wrapped items and the box is almost full, fill the top with a layer of
crumpled paper. Fill any empty space inside the box with crumpled paper so nothing can move.
G. Electronics (DVD players, monitors, etc.) should also be packed inside boxes in a similar fashion.
H. Clearly label each box FRAGILE and list the contents: i.e. GLASS, KITCHENWARE, ELECTRONICS,
etc. Place the fragile boxes in a separate area of the home and identify the fragile boxes when
the movers arrive. This allows the movers to take extra caution when handling fragile boxes.

4. Prior to your move empty your refrigerator and freezer of all food. Unplug your refrigerator from the
socket and ensure freezer has adequate time to defrost. Unplug the water cooler, remove the water
bottle, and completely empty the hot and cold water reservoirs. Empty all rubbish bins.

5. Disconnect your propane tank if your cooktop is moving. We cannot transport propane tanks as they are
flammable, we can transport a cooktop. Put all chemicals in one box, do not seal the box, let the movers
know that is a box of chemicals. Do not put unsealed liquids in a box that can spill and ruin things.

6. Do not lock your furniture. To avoid lost keys, tape the key in the drawer or leave the key in the lock. If
you have a safe and if you’re comfortable emptying the contents of the safe, leave the safe door open. In
most cases the safe specialists can easily remove the safe door making it easier to transport.

7. Create a spot as close to the front door as possible at both locations where the moving truck can easily
load and unload.
