Project Title: Marketing & Advertising During COVID-19

Marketing a product of choice during COVID-19 – a Product You Want to Buy -
Examples: MN State Fair Food Truck, Household Item, Locally Made Product
Course/Grade Level: 10th Grade Marketing Class

Three factors that lead to better performance and personal satisfaction:

1. Autonomy - In order to encourage students to be self-directed and engaged I’m:
a. Giving students a choice. Students have a choice in choosing a product
they enjoy and love.
b. Relating the project to real-life. Students are heavily impacted by
COVID-19. They may have lost a loved one or they know someone who’s
gotten sick from COVID-19. The State has closed schools and has asked
students to switch to distance learning. Students have lost jobs or worked
more hours/volunteered more because of store closures and availability.
Students were asked to distance themselves from friends, extended
family, teammates, and coaches. Stores have been closed and students
haven’t been able to buy their favorite products. All students will be able
to relate to COVID-19 in some way.
c. Working with technology and Web 2.0 tools students enjoy. Students can
use their favorite apps and technology tools to complete this project.
They can use Twitter, Facebook, and other technology tools and apps
they use in their personal lives. They’ll learn how they can use these
tools professionally for business.
2. Mastery - I’ll challenge my students by asking them to:
a. Use technology tools in a new way. I’ll ask students to look at technology
tools from a professional perspective. Students may even choose to use
a tool they want to learn more about, like creating a website page and
making a vlog. They may have been introduced to these tools in another
technology course and they’ll be able to apply their prior knowledge and
build mastery through more practice.
b. Dig more into the facts of COVID-19. They’ll become aware of the
challenges that businesses are facing and the national and State
guidelines that must be followed. They’ll add background knowledge to
their pre-existing knowledge.
c. Show independence in using a concept. Students will be asked to take
responsibility for their learning. They’ll learn and discuss the content in
groups. They’ll use peer feedback and find nonfiction literacy and other
sources to support and guide their projects. They’ll share their ideas with
classmates and use small group and whole-class discussions to deepen
their understanding and help develop their marketing plans.
3. Purpose - Students will find purpose in this project by:
a. Developing a marketing plan to buy food, products, and services from
their favorite stores. They’ll visualize what it will take to be able to buy
their favorite products with the State’s re-opening of stores and
businesses. Students will be challenged to learn at least one new thing
about what it takes for businesses to remarket their products during
COVID-19.
b. With the introduction of each new lesson plan, I’ll involve students in the
creation of learning targets. This will help guide the lesson in a direction
where students will find the most value. At the beginning of this course,
each student will also create a personal learning goal they want to meet
by the end of the course. I’ll ask students to continuously reflect back on
this personal learning goal. Reflecting back will give them a purpose in
the current lesson. It will help students determine how they’ll use what
they're learning in this lesson to reach their end goal.
