Preparation What preparation is needed?

● For the first three days, children will be in the reading circle area
● Day 4 will be outdoors, with adult supervision, in the playground/field/mini forest area
● Day 5 will be indoors, children will be seated at long tables with chairs
Instructional Procedures:

Day 1:
First 10 minutes, we will have an introduction and the teacher will ask questions to see what the children know in
advance about our home planet Earth and some elements. Then begin another introduction to trees. The teacher will
play a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I7u5FMQxHA) to help the children understand more. After the
video, the teacher will ask questions about what the children saw and tell in advance the next lesson for tomorrow.
Day 2:
First 10 minutes of today’s lesson, we will have a small recap of what we learned yesterday about trees and planet earth.
The next topic will be learning about rocks. The teacher will share a video about how they’re made
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEJXaWRptQo). There will also be a video discussion after and then when the
lesson is over, children will be told in advance the lesson plan for tomorrow.
Day 3:
First 10 minutes of today’s lesson, we will have a recap of what we learned the past two days over the earth, trees, and
rocks. After the discussion, the teacher will begin the introduction to flowers and their lifecycle. A video will be played
on the smartboard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJjNh2pMSB8). After the video, the teacher will ask what their
favorite flower is and if they have planted before. Discussion of the video will also take place and also tell children that
the next day will be the exciting scavenger hunt.
Day 4:
Today will be the day of the nature scavenger hunt. Children will be given their own ipads/tablets before going outside,
camera apps already open and in place. Children will be allowed to take pictures of the element items that we have
learned. There is no limit. They will have till the end of the lesson, before school ends, to take at least 10-15 pictures.
Students will then hand the ipads/tablets to the teacher.
After school, teacher will print out the pictures and prepare the piles for each student for the next day.
Day 5:
Beforehand, the teacher will prepare the long tables and at each chair piles of photos each child took will be in a spot.
For 50 minutes, we will have a discussion and compare/contrast the pictures students took yesterday as well make a
collage while discussing. Children will have individual discussions with their tablemates before we all come together and
share our thoughts and conclude the lesson.
Children will be allowed to take their pictures home to share with parents and family, and even compare and contrast
what they see in their own homes.

● An extension the children can visit this website at home and it gives them more details about nature and
children can also play some interactive games with parents as well, sharing what they are currently learning.

Differentiated Instructional Support: Describe how instruction can be differentiated (changed or altered) to meet the
needs of gifted or accelerated students:
● Children with special needs will have extra assistance throughout the scavenger hunt, they can bring their own
cameras from home, and bring their images and items they are comfortable with to create their collage.
Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling with the material:
● Children struggling will have an extra lesson where they will be at the sensory table and many items like leaves,
dried flowers, and rocks. Children will experience first hand what they look like and will be asked to describe
what they see physically.
