Lesson
Children will help me create a new dramatic play area with all the things they are
Summary:
currently interested in and play with their peers in the dramatic play area and will be
recorded to later watch.
Estimated Day one: children will create new area 30 minute.
Duration:
Then play in the dramatic play area until they are uninterested, which roughly happens have 45
minutes.
Day Two: will be where we watch what has been documented taking at least 45 minutes to an HOUR.
Preparation What preparation is needed? Lesson plan on hand and not a whole lot of preparation on the
of materials teachers end because this activity will be based off the children’s interest so they will come up
and with what new activities will be put in the area.
environment Bring in random items that can go into the new are.

What materials will be used? Old telephones, boxes, dress up clothing and head wear, blocks
tape paper, kitchen, table, old type writer, and many more houseware items.

How will the learning environment be set up? The children will get the opportunity to set it up
the way they like it as a part of the activity. I will break down two center areas and clear the
space so we can create a huge dramatic play area together.
Instructional Procedures:

Day 1:
First 15 minutes students will take a walk with me into the recycle room and each child will pick two to three items they
want to take back into the classroom to use in our dramatic play area.
30 minutes: As a class we will then start to create our new dramatic play area with all the items we got from the recycle
room in addition to the random items I brought in like dress up items, old typewriters and old telephones.
45 Minutes: As the lesson unfolds and the area is set and ready to be explored the children will began to explore this
new area we created together. I will start the documentation with a video recorder. The children have been interested
in answering the phone talking and playing house acting like they are then going to work. For the past week I have
observed this, but they didn’t have enough space or equipment to play effectively. Some children are using blocks as
phones food and many other things. Other children are shredding up the paper and using it as money.

Day 2: I will go home and make sure the video is ready for day 2
30-45 minutes: Children will have a small snack in the carpet area and will watch the recording on a large tv. I chose the
tv instead of the projector because many of my students talk about wanting to be on tv so this is their chance.

This fun site gives children many opportunities to engage and create things while it is still something their interested in .

Differentiated Instructional Support: Describe how instruction can be differentiated (changed or altered) to meet the
needs of gifted or accelerated students: A child might not be okay with interacting with his/ her peers. They work allow.
They can still participate in this activity. I would clear another space in the room follow all the steps I did with the other
children but allow that child to create in a space he feels comfortable in.

Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling with the material:
provide materials that seek the interest of the child.

Vocabulary: Inventors, Typewriter, Telephone

For teachers I will need two video recorders and stands. I will also need a typewriter, telephones
and a tv so we are able to watch it on day two.
For students Each child at the beginning of the school year each got an iPad, they will be able to
use the iPad during this type to take picture with their peers ands record each other
during play.
