What is the Business?

In line with the CBA Days the Grade 11 ABM Senior High school students of Lyceum of
the Philippines University -Batangas were tasked to set up a booth for their participation and
performance task in the said event. Their aim is to showcase their skills in their chosen field of
expertise.

For the proposed business the students decided to make a small merienda stand named
“Mix Under the Sun”. The small merienda stand contains the Filipino beverage called “Halo-
Halo”. This business is classified as a merchandising business where in the group purchased
raw materials and stores them as an inventory and they will soon combined these materials or
ingredients to sell a certain product.

The business aims to showcase the food culture that we have here in the Philippines as
well as to be proud of our own Filipino products. It also aims to showcase the applied skills of
the students in Principles of Marketing and Fundamentals of ABM1. And lastly this business
aims to implant a knowledge and experience to the ABM students in their chosen field of
expertise.

Say Hello to Halo-Halo

It is considered as one of the most refreshing Filipino beverage drinks of all time. Most of
the Filipinos sells halo – halo during summer time to earn extra income, but since it is craved by
most of us all year round, many businessmen found fortune in Halo- Halo.

Halo-halo is a popular sweet summer, refreshing dessert among Filipinos. Halo-

halo recipe is mainly a mixture of sweetened preserved fruits, evaporated milk and crushed
ice. Selling halo-halo during summer season is common for most local households. And,
because it is considered one of the best refreshing desserts in town, many Filipinos found a
fortune in halo-halo business.

And as part of seeking for the fortune in selling Halo- Halo we plan for the innovation of
the way it is served. We know that every time we bought Halo- Halo it is served by the vendors
themselves, but we will let the customer customize their own halo – halo, in short we will allow
them to do a self service halo- halo. We will also offer some special Halo- Halo and let them feel
that through our product and service innovation we will succeed in this field of business.

Narrative Report

This performance task is very exciting; it is fun, yet so tiring. Last Thursday Sir Philip, our FABM
1 teacher and Sir Treb, our Marketing teacher give us a chance to fix all our things in Main
Campus to assemble our booth and all our things there. Each and every one of us helped in
making our tent in the given space provided for us, and we also bought three tables for the
ingredients, for the cashier, for the kitchen and for the ingredients n for our halo halo product.
We put banderitas and crepe paper for decoration for our booth to look beautiful and colorful.
We are tired and exhausted after assembling the tent, because we don’t know how to assemble
it properly, but we help each other so that it won’t sway and broke on the day of the booth
opening. Then after putting all the decorations, we clean all the trashes. We finally get some
time to rest and eat. After looking at it we know that our efforts will be paid off sooner or later.
We can’t imagine that we are able to conduct this kind of activity. We are so lucky that we can
participate in this kind of event. And the day has come, it is already Friday, it is the CBA day.
The call time is 7 am. But we didn’t go as we planned, most of our team members are late, but
despite of the thing we are able to execute and perform thing properly. And as we are prepare
our tables and we put tarpaulin named “Mix under the Sun” the name of our product. We also
prepared a photo booth for our customers. We attend a mass in a gymnasium and we watched
a program and a muse competition. We are cheering for the Muse Representative of ABM
strand. And after the program, we are ready to serve our customers. We are very excited. And
then after the announcement that our booth will finally be open we are so hocked about the
customers lining in front of us and asking about how much is the cost of our product and upon
knowing the price they immediately lined up in the cashier to order some halo halo. And to our
surprise professors from the CBA Department was the first one to order 8 halo halo, imagine
that! We are so pleased and happy to serve them. All of us are cooperating, they follow the
given tasked and responsibilities that are assigned to them. Like Nery, Yasmin, Kristine Joy,
Comia, , Camille and me are the ones who are tasked to put the ingredients in the glass,
Jezrene and Nica are the persons who are accepting the order and payment, Patricia is the one
who tally the business and non business transaction, in short she is the chief accountant of our
team. In the back someone Glorg and RM are the ones who will put the ice in glass and Ben,
Jericho and Brylle are the people whom are assigned to shave the ice and some of them are the
ones who will put the milk and other ingredients. And after that more customers are lining up,
we are in the medium “panic state”, because we didn’t expect this kind of thing. We are very
stressed, because we have so many customers. The problem that we have is we didn’t think
who owns this order, because we don’t know their names. But we come up with a plan of writing
their names in the cup so that we will know who order this and that. And we did it because we
all helping each other. We don’t mind if we are hungry, we need to prioritise our product
especially the customers. And lately it’s only 1 hour and 30 minutes left but we need 75 orders
to achieve our goal, gain our capital back and achieve a profit. We decided to go around and
advertise our product; we bought the menu with us and tried to roam around the gym.
Thankfully we earned more customers. But there are cases that we offer our product to many
people, but some don’t like to buy our product, but most of them purchase halo halo from us.
And even though some of the booth are closing we are still have hoping that we will achieve our
capital, and yes, we did it!! We are so very happy because even if we are very tired we achieved
our goal! This performance task really helps us in our future, we didn’t only learn on to manage
well our business, we learn to advertise, we learn how to be cooperative, we learn our value or
worth in our group and especially we learn how to apply our skills in marketing and accounting.
