1. OBJECT
This norme applies to felts covered on one surface with a plastic or rubber based coating, intended for body
trim (passenger compartment and boot).
The felts are obtained for example by carding, napping, needling, knitting (with the exclusion of wool felts
which have been subjected to the fulling operation) and may include a cloth support.
2. EXPRESSION ON DOCUMENTS
Application of the requirements of this norme must be expressed as follows :
• material description,
• reference of the material used,
• reference to this norme.
Example :
COATED FELT A02 NORME B65 1310.
3. GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
These specifications are those of norme B65 0110 with the exception of the paragraphs below which are
expanded as follows :
D – APPROVAL OF SUPPLIES
The supplier must also indicate :
• the product number,
• the colour of the coating
• the graining of the coating.
F – DELIVERY CONDITIONS
F.2. PRESENTATION
In the case of delivery in rolls, the two edges must be cropped, straight and parallel.
• The needling operation must be carried out correctly in such a way that the product obtained is
sufficiently solid and strong, without poorly secured fibres which can easily tear away.
• To avoid dust being released when stitching, the reverse may be impregnated with a non-tacky
synthetic binding agent.
• Felts must have a constant and uniform thickness.
• For bonding use, none of the constituents must prevent bonding, nor bring about its destruction by
migration into the adhesive.
• In the case of felts, the coating must not pass through the support.
• The materials must be able to be easily rolled out flat to constitute a pad containing no undulations
likely to produce variations in the dimensions in the parts after cutting out.
• The coating layer must be free of defects such as : folds, tears, blisters, holes, cracks, score marks,
abrasions, etc...
• The support must not show through the coating layer.
F.3. PACKAGING
The products must be supplied either in rolls (case 1) or in the form of cut-off parts (case 2), in conformity
with instructions from the relevant departments and the user plants. In addition :
• any joins must be made without overlapping,
• the ends of parts must have three strips of “Kraft” paper, 50 to 70 mm wide, distributed over the
width of the part,
• each strip must be taken from approximately 20 cm beneath the last coil, completely encircle the
circumference of the roll and be secured by means of adhesive paper.
(1) Or any other test temperature shown on the drawing (to be specified).
(2) Material used in an area exposed to light (to be specified).
(3) Material used in an area not exposed to light (to be specified).
