COLOUR AND GRAIN CODING A10 2250 3/5

1.OBJECT AND FIELD OF APPLICATION

This norm defines the rules for colour and grain coding of styled parts used in vehicles.

It does not include:

 The colour coding of styled parts used on vehicles common to PSA and FIAT. This
is the subject of specific documents.
 The grain coding of metallic parts where the appearance is obtained by an electrolytic coating. This
is defined in norme B15 3200.

COLOUR AND GRAIN CODING A10 2250 4/5

4.GENERAL
The colour and grain coding are independent of each other.
The significance of the codes relative to colour and grain is common to all marques within the PSA Group, this
gives rise to unique collections of colour, grain or aspect samples.

5.COLOUR CODING
5.1.COMPOSITION

The standard colour code standard is composed of 3 alphabetical characters (1).

The first character distinguishes the body, trim and accessory colours, whereas the two final characters are only
significant if they are associated with the first.

The following values are allocated to:

 body colours E αα, K αα and L αα

 trim and accessory colours F αα, H αα and J αα
These values are to be used in succession, after the exhaustion of allocation codes with the preceding letters in the
first position.

To use "body colour" and "trim and accessory colour" codes in information systems that have only two characters
available for this use, a change of code is necessary. These codes may take alphanumeric values.

Specific attention must be paid to the allocation of these codes in order to avoid all ambiguities on each part.

(1) The values I and O are excluded.

5.2.APPLICATIONS

The standard colour code identifies the colour standards and is mandatory for these as well as the combination and
colour tables.

 Remark :
The last two characters of the standard colour code make up the "colour code" that appears in the 10
digit number for coloured parts conforming to the provisions defined in norme A10 3111.

6.GRAIN CODING
6.1.COMPOSITION

The standard grain code is composed of one alphabetical character (1) followed by 3 numerical characters (2).
The first character distinguishes between the standards in relation to their material and possibly their method of
manufacture.
The last three characters make up a sequential number that is only significant in association with the first character.
(1) The values I and O are excluded.
(2) Certain codes previously attributed to this layout may consist of a sequential number of only 2
characters.

The following values are allocated to standards or parts:

 paint A NNN
 cardboard C NNN
 textile F NNN
 metallic M NNN
 decorative strips S NNN
 rubber R NNN
 leather L NNN
 injected plastic P NNN (1)
 rolled plastic V NNN
 painted plastic K NNN
 wood B NNN

(1) Parts in injected plastic with a rolled plastic finish, obtained by sheathing an original model with rolled materials,
are compared to parts in rolled plastic.

6.2.APPLICATIONS

The standard grain code identifies the grain standard and is mandatory for these as well as on the definition
drawings of parts.

Note: A different part number is allocated to each part with a different grain, even if their geometry is identical in
other respects.

7.ADMINISTRATION OF CODES AND STANDARDS

The allocation and distribution of codes is the responsibility of the "colour coding" function of the PSA Group.

The administration of colour, grain and aspect standards is the responsibility of the same department.
