Narrative
Issue:
progress set It appears there is no longer a Boiler system on the DD set of drawings. Please confirm or
4/24/20 advise.
Response: 4/28/20 Ed Bosco (ME) We are trying to move ahead without the boiler
room. We may need to do some local supplemental heat at locations that can’t be
addressed by heat pumps but we are assuming we can do this with electric heat which
would consistent with the Columbia request to shift towards electric for the HVAC
systems.

Subject: Steel members tonnage

9 Structural S dwgs 4/30/20 5/7/20 5/8/20 6 TT
Issue: The drawings do not show steel members sizes and TT narrative was not included
progress set
in Progress DD set. What is the current tonnage of structural steel?
4/24/20
Response:

TT: Please see attached PDF ("2020-05-07 CU Tennis Steel Quantities.pdf") with
updated quantities reflecting development of the structural design since 100%SD, as
shown in the 4/24 progress drawing set.

For purposes of evaluating member sizes and pick weights, the typical W30, W33, and
W36 long span infill beams at the roof are between 100 and 130 lbs per foot, and the
plate girders at the roof are approximately 400 lbs per foot. Column sizes range from
W14x61 to W14X90 in the clubhouse area, W14x132 to W14x176 around the
perimeter of the tennis area, and boxed W14's with 1"x16" side plates weighing
approximately 250 lbs/ft for the central 5 full-height unbraced columns along grid D.

Girts for intermediate support of the facade panels are typically HSS14X6 or
HSS14X10 with long side horizontal, with typical weights of 30-40 lbs/ft, with limited
heavier sections at the longest end spans. L3X3 or similar hanger elements at mid-
span will be used to limit sag of the girt sections over the 50' to 60' spans between
columns.

As shown on bracing elevations in the 4/24 set, vertical bracing in most cases is double
angle bracing to simplify fabrication and connections of brace connections, with use of
HSS bracing limited to longer unbraced lengths and architecturally exposed bracing
within the tennis spaces.

Complete size information for all beams, girts, columns, and braces will be provided
with the 100% Design Development deliverable.
