ENTRY CARD
A. Determine whether the statement is True or False by checking the appropriate box.
Statement True False
1. The normal curve is a bell-shaped probability distribution. ✓
2. As the base of a normal curve, there are six standard deviations expressed as z. ✓
3. The tails of the curve touch the baseline so that the curve can cover 100% of ✓
the area under it.
LEARN FROM HOME
4. The skewness of a normal curve is 0. ✓PROGRAM
5. The probability of a random score occurs between z=1 and z=0 is 0.3413. ✓
6. The probability that a random score occurs between z=1 and z=0 is 0.6826 ✓
7. The z-score is, in fact, a standard deviation value.
8. The mean and standard deviation of a normal distribution is 0 and 1, ✓
respectively.
B. Draw the sketch of a normal curve (you can also insert a picture of a normal curve).

D. Suppose you have the population values 50 and 80 and that their corresponding z-scores are -1 and 2,
respectively. Is it possible to determine the population’s mean and standard deviation? If so, what are
these values? If not, explain why it is impossible.
No, it is not possible to determine the population’s mean and standard deviation at the same time because
without the mean the standard deviation cannot be determined, and without standard deviation, the mean
cannot be determined.
REFLECT
I am not your average gentleman/lady
A certain situation where I would like to use these expressions is when I would describe people’s
communication skills. For example, if a person cannot communicate well, I would describe his/her
communication skills as below average, and when a person can communicate well, I would describe his/her
communication skills as above average. I chose this situation because it is to help myself and also other people
on adjusting whether they would put extra effort into communicating or not. Thus, it can be a way through
better relationships for it enables one to be understanding or it can be a way through the improvement of one’s
communication skills.

INTERPRETING GRADES
Yes, the information is sufficient for me to compare the grades because the means and standard deviations are
already given which allows me to get each of their z score value that will then identify the lowest to highest av

Therefore, the Science grade has a higher raw score than the English grade, and the English grade has a
higher raw score than the Mathematics grade but the performance in Mathematics did relatively better than the
performance in English and Science. Lowest to highest: 1) Science, 2) English, 3) Mathematics. The higher z-
score indicates that Mathematics is further above the mean than the performance in English, and English is
further above the mean than Science.
