A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Atomic Structure

Prepared by: Ellen May G. Gutierrez

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:

illustrate different atomic model;

differentiate ions from isotopes; and
perform electron configuration.

II. Subject Matter

Atomic Structure

III. Instructional Materials

Laptop
Atomic Model
Module 2

IV. Procedure
A. Preparation
Greet the students and then ask them to sit comfortably and presentably.

B. Motivation
Make the student imagine about the solar system and its revolution and orbits of
each planet, ask them how does the planet revolve and orbit around the sun?

C. Lesson Proper
Everything in the universe is composed of atoms, Matter is composed of a tiny,
fundamental particles called “Atomos” which means indivisible and uncattable
based on Democritus, however as time goes by many scientists continued the study
of Democritus and continued by John Dalton that leads him to the contribution of
Atomic Theory and considered John Dalton as “Father of modern Atomic Theory”,
In the late 19th century to the early 20th century, different experiments performed
by different scientists showed that the indestructible atom can actually be divided
into even smaller parts. These smaller parts are collectively known as the subatomic
particles. These particles are the electron, the proton, and the neutron. All of the
elements are made from atoms, and elements contain an electron that can either be
in the ground state (stable state) or in excited state, ionization can stabilize an
electron by sharing it to another element. Electron Configuration is the arrangement
and distribution of electrons among the various energy levels, sublevels, and atomic
orbitals of the atom. Moreover, the electron configuration of an atom describes not
only where the electrons are found but also the energy of these electrons as well.
Electron configurations of atoms are determined by distributing the atom’s
electrons among energy levels, sublevels, and orbitals based on a set of scientific
principles.
D. Activity
Let the students read the Module 2 and ask them to explain different atomic model,
the atomic theories as well as the scientific principle in writing electronic
configuration.

E. Generalization
It is very important for every student to learn these concept, so that they are well
aware of the components of the things around them and why does some of this
elements undergo sharing of electron or ionization.

F. Evaluation
Oral recitation at the end of the synchronous class.
