Based on the Basic Competence 3.2 for tenth grade, the material is about the expression of
congratulation and giving compliment. It will be difficult for the students to learn both of the
expressions at one time. So I am going to teach the expression of congratulations first and focus on
speaking skill. As one of the communication skill, the students the students have to learn how to
appreciate other in order to maintain the relationship in the society. By the end of this chapter, it is
expected that the students will be able to use the expression of congratulation correctly based on certain
situation.
I will start the lesson by giving them a video of dialogue showing congratulation and ask the
students to guess what the topic of the dialogue is. There are 4 steps in this teaching learning process.
While watching the videos, I will ask the students to identify the expression of congratulation used in the
video (formal and non-formal) and pay attention on how to pronounce the word “congratulation”. Then,
I will guide them to analyze the structure. After that, I will show two pictures and then ask some random
students (if it’s done in offline class) to make simple expression of congratulation. But if it is online
class, I will ask them to send it via voice note (it can be done via whatsapp or zoom meeting, but I am
currently using whatsapp group). At the end of the lesson, I will give the students some situations and
they must make a monologue saying congratulations in the form of video. Moreover, I am going to use
this task (creating a video) to assess the students’ speaking skill.
I think the use of video as instructional media will help the students to figure out the situation
and know how to pronounce the word correctly. Instead of directly go to the text book, by identifying
the expression used in the video, I will know their skill in critical thinking. The purpose of sending the
voice note is they need to practice more on pronouncing the words. Finally, in this online learning I
prefer to give them individual project since the headmaster has warned us (the teachers) not to give
group work project. I know it might be not an ideal project for expression of congratulation because it is
usually done in conversation. But the underlying idea is we often watch a Vlog about someone’s
birthday party or other events and the guests will be asked to say some words like congratulations for the
birthday person. That’s what I mean by creating a monologue video. I am not sure how many percent
they can absorb the material, I guess 50% ? Thanks.

A. Tujuan Pembelajaran
Setelah mengikuti proses pembelajaran, peserta didik diharapkan dapat:
1. Mengindentifikasi ungakapan-ungkapan memberi ucapan selamat pada video
2. Menganalisis struktur dan unsur kebahasaan pada ungkapan selamat
3. Membuat teks lisan ( speaking) ucapan selamat berdasarkan situasi yang diberikan
dengan benar
