Title : Reinforced Concrete Beam Design

General Description : Calculates reinforcement requirements for a singly reinforced rectangular concrete beam or slab in flexure.
Calculates the ultimate moment bending capacity of the section for a given steel arrangement (1 or 2 layers of tension
reinforcement).
Considers all minimum reinforcement and spacing requirements to AS3600.
The spreadsheet is particularly applicable to slabs where minimum reinforcement requirements may govern.

Limitations : For rectangular sections only.

Does not design for shear and shear reinforcement.
Ignores the effects of compression steel in bending capacities.
Does not allow for prestress in calculating M uo.min & A st.min.
Not suitable for members in tension.

Codes / Theoretical Basis : AS3600 - 2001 (Incorporating Amendment 1, 2002 and Amendment 2, 2004)
Warner, Rangan, Hall & Faulkes, 'Concrete Structures', Longman, Melbourne, 1999

Nomenclature : Symbols and notation as used in AS3600.

Input : White text on black background.

Section geometry, cover, material properties
Bending moments M*, M s*, M s.1*
Number & bar diameter for 1 or 2 layers of tension reinforcement
Reinforcement grade

Output : Boxed cells with green background.

Number, size and spacing of reinforcing bars
Moment capacity fMu
Checks for minimum reinforcement and spacing
