It is about two young men, Midun and Kacak who are hostile to each other.
Midun is a poor, good-natured, polite, patient, and obedient son of a religious order.
Midun is also very good at martial arts. While Kacak is the son of the rich, his mother
became penghulu Laras in the area so no wonder if Kacak become arrogant and proud
of the wealth owned by his family. Kacak also always wants to win alone and not
happy to see other people who exceed him. Seeing the difference between the two
characters, it is only natural that the public is more pleased and respects Midun than
Kacak.
Because Midun is more popular, Kacak becomes very jealous. The root of the
hostility between them, is because Midun is very popular with people while Kacak is
not. Instead, Kacak actually assumes that the cause of himself is not liked by the
masyarat is the result of incitement Midun to the public to hate himself. Then the
arguments are inevitable.
One day Midun hit the fall of a crazy man who screwed up in the market. That
opportunity was used by Kacak to complain to Tuanku Laras that Midun should be
punished. Since the madman was still a family with Tuanku Laras, the Kacak
complaint was accepted. And Midun was punished.
The punishment that Midun did not make Kacak stop. Kacak still hates Midun
and is always looking for opportunities to harm him. Not infrequently also Kacak
always looking for trouble to provoke Midun emotions and challenging fighting.
Thanks to Midun's patience all the Kacak raids never responded. Midun always
remember the advice Haji Abbas teachers mengajinya and Swordsman Sutan a martial
arts champion in his village. Midun assumes that his martial arts are not to fight and
seek enemies, but to defend themselves and make friends.
One day, Kacak's wife fell into the river and he was almost swept away by the
current. At times, Midun who was near the scene tried to save the woman. But
Midun's defense was responded by Kacak. He even accused Midun of raping his wife,
so Kacak actually challenged Midun to fight. In the fight Midun managed to defeat
Kacak. Defeat makes Kacak more grudging. Kacak reported the incident to Tuanku
Laras. He insists that Midun is about to rape his wife. My lord Laras believes in
Kacak's report so that Midun gets the sentence of working at Tuanku Laras's house
without pay.
During Midun's sentence, Kacak was assigned by Tuanku Laras to Megunate
Midun. Of course this opportunity is not wasted by Kacak. Kacak has a great chance
to harm Midun. The existence of Midun became a Barrier to Kacak to do as they
pleased in their village. That's why Kacak keeps trying to wipe out Midun forever. For
that, Kacak hired a hit man named Lenggang to wipe out the soul of Midun.
Opportunity is open to Kacak to vent his or her passion. When Midun and his friend
Maun were watching a horse race in Bukittinggi, they were suddenly attacked by
Lenggang, a fight ensued. They were later arrested by the company's personnel on
charges of rioting. Midun and Lenggang were imprisoned in Padang. While Maun is

Java and then went to Bogor to see Halimah's father a retired former Wedana. There
they are well received. Midun was asked to stay in the house. Midun, however, felt
ashamed to live in the house because it was just to eat and sleep. So Midun decided to
leave the house looking for a job. Midun tried to find a job in jakarta.
On the way to Jakarta, Midun became acquainted with a wealthy Arab
merchant, who was actually a loan shark. Without prejudice, Midun accepted the
Syehk's tawaean that would lend money as capital. With the loan capital from the
Arabs, Midun opened a trading business. Thanks to his diligence, Midun's business
expanded rapidly to make Syehk Arab envy. He also collects Midun's debt amounting
to more than Midun's loan amount. Midun refused because his debt has been doubled.
Failing to collect, Syehk charged another way, he was willing Midun not pay the debt
(considered paid off), if Midun handed Halimah to him. Of course this makes Midun
and Halimah angry. Finally the Arab man complained to the Company, and Midun
was arrested.
After being detained, Midun was walking the new market. There he saw a
native seorag who raged and attacked the Dutch Sinyo. When she saw the Dutch
Sinyo pressed, Midun helped her. Dutch Sinyo survived. Once it was known that
Sinyo's parents were Hoofdcommissarisdi Betawi. And as a token of thanks, Midun
was offered a job there as a secretary. Shortly thereafter, Midun marries Halimah.
Midun's work was transferred to the Minister of Policy in Tanjung Priok. When
Midun was doing his job in Medan to track the band of opium traffickers, Midun met
his brother's Manjau. Through his brother, Midun knew that his father had died, the
treasure of his heritage was exhausted. In addition to being used for daily living as
well as being taken by his father's nephew who feels he has the right to inherit. Also
Kacak's behavior which has now become Tuanku Laras to replace his mother, is
becoming more and more. Mummy and Miun are now married, with Midun's younger
brother being subjected to the cruelty of Kacak.
Upon his return to Betawi, Midun went to Hoofdecommissaris to express his
desire to move to Bukittinggi, on the grounds of wanting to work in his homeland.
The Haofdcommissaris permitted him. Midun's family moved to Bukittinggi.
Incidentally Assistant Resident Bukitinggi placed Midun as Assistant Demang in his
area. Of course this makes the fog of the enemy foe. Embarrassed and fearful, his
suspicions embezzled the state's money uncovered by Midun, eventually Kacak left
