The artwork that I chose to analyze is Ligawan by Fernando Amorsolo 1963. I chose this artwork
because i like how he portrayed traditional Filipino customs and ordinary occupation which is
rice harvesting. I search about his paintings and I noticed he mostly used the color of yellow
which represents the sunlight and soon he become known as “Painter of Philippines Sunlight”.
The 6 elements used in this artwork are lines, shapes, and colors. First is lines, lines can create
movement and emotion in a certain artwork, it helps us understand more. Lines can create mood
of peacefulness and are softer on the viewer. Through this we can see more depth into the
artwork. Next is Shapes, we can see shapes every day in our lives, every corner of the world has
shape in it. Shapes is encased by lines to signify its height and width structure. Shapes are used
to determined certain thing like in animation shapes are used to give a character distinct
personality and features. Shapes have endless variety of characteristic and each can communicate
different messages to your audience. It gives us also different ideas, covey mood and emotion.
Next is the colors, colors are very important when it comes to painting. Colors are non-verbal,
they create a physical and emotional reaction. It helps to communicate the message of the
artwork by expressing your feelings through the colors itself like how Fernando used the colors
of mixed warm and cool tones such as yellow and green.
