3.2. Approved material submittal / Technical Data Sheets.
3.3. Approved shop drawings issued for construction.
4. PROCEDURE
4.1.STORAGE
4.1.1. Pipes shall be stacked on a flat surface with adequate supports.
4.1.2. End of pipes shall be protected until taken up for installation.
4.1.3. While stacking, it shall be ensured that pipes of bigger sizes are placed below and
smaller sizes on top.
4.1.4. All pipes shall be covered and shall not be exposed directly to outside conditions.
4.1.5. All supporting materials shall be stored in a covered storage area, segregated
according.
4.1.6. Any items found damaged or not suitable as per project requirements shall be
removed from site. If required to store temporarily, they shall be clearly marked and
stored separately to prevent any advertent use.

4.2.PREPARTION
4.2.1. Check and ensure all drawings used for installation are latest and approved for
construction.
STERLING AND WILSON DOC. No.:

PROJECT: BRIGADE WTC@CHENNAI

4.2.2. Check the co-ordination of piping layout with other services and reflected ceiling
and decide pipe route with minimum bends/offsets.
4.2.3. Check and ensure sufficient clearance is available around pipe for applying
insulation/cladding, servicing of valves, vents etc.
4.2.4. Fabricate the structural supports from angles/channels as per support schedule
mentioned in the drawings.

4.3.INSTALLATION
Prior to start installations one sample installation as per approved drawings and project
specifications to be made and offered for Consultant Inspections.
4.3.1. Piping
4.3.1.1. Fix the anchors and threaded rods with clevis hangers / structural supports
as applicable. Threaded rod length shall be sufficient to allow for levelling of
piping.
4.3.1.2. Cut the pipes accurately to measurements determined at site. For smaller
sizes (up to 150 mm) disc cutter should be used and for bigger sizes gas cutting.
The cut ends should be clean, clear and free from slag etc.
4.3.1.3. Ensure cut ends are square and free of dents. Threading shall be done as per
fitting / valve manufacturer’s recommendations (NPT or BS Threads)
4.3.1.4. End preparations for welded joints shall be done as per welding procedure
specification
4.3.1.5. After the end preparation clean the pipe ends and ensure no material and
dust is left inside.
4.3.1.6. Depending on site conditions, assemble the piping into manageable lengths
on the floor. Using threaded, welded jointing as applicable.
4.3.1.7. Install the pipe spools at heights as per approved drawings in a neat and tidy
manner.

PROJECT: BRIGADE WTC@CHENNAI

4.3.1.8. Insert the approved hard insulating material (PUF) of suitable thickness
between the pipe and support.
4.3.1.9. Align and level the piping as per approved drawings.
4.3.1.10. Install G.I. rod type U-clamp for horizontal pipes as per approved schedule of
supports.
4.3.1.11. Use standard fittings like Elbows for changes of directions and branch take
off
4.3.1.12. Use eccentric reducers with level side up for change of pipe sizes in
horizontal runs and concentric reducers for change of sizes in Vertical runs /
risers.
4.3.1.13. Install drain points in mains, risers and branch lines consisting of tee fitting /
socket, 20 mm ball valve, short nipple and cap / end plug.
4.3.1.14. Install Air Vents at higher points and for takeoff out from the top of the
mains.
4.3.1.15. Check and ensure proper supporting is provided as per approved drawings
and support schedule.
4.3.1.16. Make temporary tapping provisions at multiple points for easy and quick
filling and draining of pressure testing water.
4.3.1.17. Do the pressure testing of pipes and after completion of the same clear for
insulation works.

1. PURPOSE
A. The purpose of this SOP is to outline the method of storage, handling and
installation of Drain Piping for Equipment’s like AHU and FCU etc.
2. MATERIAL
A. PVC – Drainage pipes & fittings.
B. Clevis hangers, threaded rods, anchor fastener etc.
C. Drain pipe insulation material as per tender specification.
3. REFERENCES
A. Pipe & Fitting Manufacturer’s catalogues.
B. Approved shop drawings
4. PROCEDURE
A. STORAGE
I. When off-loading, pipes shall be lowered, not dropped to the ground.
II. Pipes shall be given adequate support at all times and shall be stacked on a flat
surface free from any sharp objects.
III. support of at least 3” wide shall be placed beneath the pipes with spacing not
greater than 1.8 mtr. Closer supports will be required for sizes below 160mm.
IV. Pipes shall not be stored under direct sunlight to avoid ultra violet degradation.
B. PREPARTION
i. Drawings for installation are approved & co-ordinate with other services.
C. INSTALLATION
1. Mark-up the pipe routing on the soffit of slab / floor as per the setting-out.
2. Install approved anchor fasteners for support as per the approved support
distances for different pipe sizes.
3. All supporting of pipes will be done as per recommended spacing both horizontally
and vertically. Supporting of both horizontal & vertical pipes shall be done in
accordance with the approved details and drawings.

PROJECT: BRIGADE WTC@CHENNAI

4. Pipes will be run to proper slope requirements as per the approved shop
drawing. (min 1 : 100 mm)
5. Pipes and fittings (uPVC) will be joined by solvent weld jointing for pipe Following
steps will be taken during the jointing.
I. Pipes will be cut (machine cut) to square before assembly of fittings and all burrs
to be rubbed-off.
II. Cleaning fluid to be applied on both surfaces to be joined. The cleaning fluid will
remove all dirt & soften the surface for the chemical solvent weld.
III. Solvent cement will be applied evenly over mating surfaces of the both pipe &
socket, and insert pipe into the socket with slight twisting action to full socket
depth.
IV. Surplus cement of the joint will be removed by cloth.
V. After jointing, it will be allowed for 3 minutes to get dried.

6. Sufficient clean-outs are provided in long run of drainage piping to enable the
maintenance in case of choking of drainage system.
