1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this SOP is to outline the method of storage, handling and installation of Drain
Piping & De-humidifier line for Equipment’s like AHU/CRAH/CSU/TFA and FCU etc.
2. SCOPE:

This method statement refers to various work procedures contained within Sterling and Wilson,
Design/Drawing/Contractual specifications/Customer Quality requirement which explain.
Contract specifications& covers the Installation of Drain & De-humidifier line works.

5.1 Project Manager

1. Arrange required ducting material and man power based on schedule.

2. Arrange the required tools for related work.

3. Co-ordination with procurement team for arranges materials.

4. To ensure people safety.

5.2 Project Engineer

1. Organize team meeting with work allocation for the activity completion;

2. Update and inspect the works physical fitness.

3. To ensure necessary permit and area clearance prior to start the activity.

4. Monitoring and controlling operations and conduct necessary measure prevent non-
confirmation works.

5.3 Site Quality engineer:

5. Identified site quality engineer is responsible for preparation of project specific quality
documents in consultation and support from regional quality representative.

6. Make sure effective implementation of approved quality plans and quality control
procedure during execution of works.

7. Responsible for communicating with all site staff about quality requirement and responsible
for reviewing all related subjects.

8. Regional quality representative will be responsible for organizing Quality Audits with
coordination of site and project management.

9. Responsible for all corrective action in coordination with project team and close the non-
conformity identified during quality audits.

6. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT’S

Tools and equipment required for carry on the Drain line activities as listed below:

6.1 PVC Pipes and fittings

6.2 Clevis hangers, threaded rods, anchor fastener etc.

6.3 Hand tools (Spanner, hammers, Spirit level and screwdriver)

6.4 PP Rope 18mm for Lifeline & 10mm for PVC pipes lifting.

6.5 Hand Drilling Machine

6.6 Cutting Machine

6.7 Cotton waste (for cleaning the pipe surface prior to apply adhesive for joint).

6.8 ALUMINIUM Mobile Scaffolding 4-5 mtr. Height.

6.9 Adhesive for Pipe joints pasting.

7. INSTALLATION PROCESURE AND METHODOLOGY

7.1 Preparation of Work:

Before commencement of installation of Drain & De-Humidifier line the following activities are
required to be carried out:

7.1.1 Obtain the work Permit and competent workforce will be perform the task
7.1.2 Brief description of task and training of crew before start of work by site supervisor
and by safety supervisor
7.1.3 Vehicle mobilization to be done to the designated marked area on floor plan by
S&W site engineer.
7.1.4 Ensure Banksmen while unloading of the material from the vehicle
7.1.5 During night hours use batten light to control the vehicle
7.1.6 Driver has to maintain Vehicle speed limit at site 15km/h
7.1.7 Barricades and signage shall be placed around the activity area for unloading
Material to restrict unauthorized entry.
7.1.8 Ensure Banksmen while unloading of the material from the vehicle
7.1.9 When off-loading, pipes shall be lowered, not dropped to the ground. by manually
from the truck to respective floor, without hampering other agency activities.

7.1.10 Deploying 2-3 persons for unloading and shifting activity. One person shall be
available on truck to lift & hand over the Drain line materials to persons who
standing on ground level to shift to designated place.
7.1.11 Always be given adequate supports under the pipes and shall be stacked on a flat
surface for free from any sharp objects.
7.1.12 support of at least 3” wide shall be placed beneath the pipes with spacing not
greater than 2mtr. Closer supports will be required for sizes below 80mm.
7.1.13 Pipes shall not be stored under direct sunlight to avoid ultraviolet degradation.
7.1.14 Make sure adequate lighting availability
7.1.15 Provide proper scaffolding and ladder as approved by safety team.
7.1.16 All the power tools and incoming cable to be checked no joints b/w the cable.
7.1.17 Provide proper barricade and signage during lifting of materials and installation.
Installation Procedure:
7.1.18 Mark-up the pipe routing on the soffit of slab / floor as per the setting-out.
7.1.19 Install approved anchor fasteners for support as per the approved support distances
7.1.20 All supporting of pipes will be done as per recommended spacing both horizontally
and vertically. Supporting of both horizontal & vertical pipes shall be done in
accordance with the approved details and drawings.
7.1.21 Pipes will be run to below the floor slab with proper slope requirements as per the
approved shop drawing. (min 1 : 100 mm)
7.1.22 Proper Staging with access platform(Horizontal support tied up with Vertical ‘C’
struct support which supported with bottom of slab) will be provided above the Puff
slab panel in GF @ 1.5-2 mtr. Height, inline to access the floor slab for carrying
Drainpipe installation with necessary supports as per drawing and cut out provided
in the upper floors.
7.1.23 Life line rope 16mm shall be provided through the ‘C’ struct support at regular

interval for hook up the safety belt.


7.1.24 Pipes and fittings (PVC) will be joined by solvent weld jointing for pipe Following
steps will be taken during the jointing.
7.1.25 Cleaning fluid to be applied on both surfaces to be joined. The cleaning fluid will
remove all dirt & soften the surface for the chemical solvent weld.
7.1.26 Solvent will be applied evenly over mating surfaces of the both pipe & socket, and
insert pipe into the socket with slight twisting action to full socket depth.
7.1.27 Surplus solvent of the joint will be removed by cloth. After jointing, it will be allowed
for 3 minutes to get dried. Surplus solvent MSDS control measure to be followed.
7.1.28 Sufficient clean-outs are provided in long run of drainage piping to enable the
maintenance in case of choking of drainage system.
7.1.29 While working inside shaft, will ensure to provide proper scaffolding adhering safety
standard along with access ladder for workers movement. Also, will make sure
maintain proper CO level as required.
7.1.30 U traps for AHU/CRAH/CSU & FCU to be provided considering the static pressure of
the supply air fan.
7.1.31 Provision to be made for cleaning of U traps.
7.1.32 Proper water collection cups to be provided for equipment’s like pumps etc.
7.1.33 After testing. 6/9mm thick nitrile rubber insulation to be done.
7.1.34 DESIGN AND DRAWINGS
7.1.35 Final Approved Layout Drawings.
7.1.36 QUALITY
7.1.37 Procedure described in the method statement (MS) for installation of ducting and
insulation shall be followed as below listed quality formats:
7.1.38 • Field Quality Plan (FQP)
