Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Good morning class! Good morning maam!

Okay, can you please stand. Let us have a (all stand for a short prayer)
short prayer.
Can you please lead the prayer_______?
(one student will lead the prayer.)
Okay! Please take a sit.
Class monitor who is absent?
No, ma’am!

b. Activity/strategy

Before we proceed on our topic for today

let us have an exercises first.

Group yourselves by 5.

Choose your facilitator, secretary and a

reporter. The reporter will be one to explain
the work of their group.
I have here a group of letters.

MARGOLELLARAP

Form this into one word and tell something

about this word. Write your answer on the
PARALLELOGRAM
manila paper provided.

two pairs of opposite sides that are
c. Analysis parallel.

Today, I am going to discuss about the

properties of a parallelogram. But before
that at the end of the lesson you must be
able to; State the following properties of a
parallelogram; Two opposite side of a
parallelogram are congruent. Two opposite
angles of a parallelogram are congruent.
How to find the measure of angles, sides,
and other quantities using properties of a
parallelogram. Participate actively in class
discussion and take and pass the test with a
mastery level of 80%.

Let us start with this first property of a

-student follow
parallelogram.

Can you read the first property?

Okay, very good.

Opposite sides of a parallelogram are
Opposite sides of a parallelogram are
congruent.
congruent
For example, let us have this parallelogram
A B

D C
Our opposite sides here are AB and CD, AD
and BC.
So, we can say that AB ≅ CD, AD ≅ BC
To further understand let us have this
example.
In a parallelogram QRST, QT=(5x)cm and -students follow.
RS=(2x + 15)cm. Find the length of QT and
RS.
Q R

(5x)cm (2x+15)cm

T S
Our first property state that opposite side of
a parallelogram are congruent.
So, we have here QT ≅ RS
Now, let us solve the value of x to find the
length of QT and RS.

Let us solve for the value of x.

QT ≅ RS -students follow.
5x=2x+15
5x-2x=15
3x=15
3x/3=15/3
X=5
Since, we have the value of x, let us find the
value of QT and RS
QT= 5x RS=2x+15
=5(5) =2(5)+15 -students follow
QT=25cm =10 +15
RS=25cm
the length of QT is 25cm and RS is 25cm.
therefore, line segment QT and line
segment RS are congruent.

Another example.
Given: B 2y+2 C -students follow.

2x +2 3x-7

A 3y-11 D
Find: a) x
b.) y
c.) BC
d.) AB
Who can try to solve for the value of x?

(one student will answer)

AB ≅ CD
Okay, very good!
2x+2=3x-7
And the value for our x is 9.
2+7=3x-2x
Now, who can solve for the value of y?
9=x
X=9
(one student will answer)
BC ≅ AD
2y+2=3y-11
Okay, very good!
2+11=3y-2y
So, we have now the value of y.
13=y
Now, who can try to solve on the board the
Y=13
measure of line segment BC

(one student will go to the board and

answer)
Very good!
BC= 2y+2
Now, who can to solve for the measure of
=2(13)+2
line segment AB
BC=28

(One student will go to the board and

Okay, very good!
answer.)
Any question or clarification about the
AB=2x+2
property number 1?
=2(9)+2
AB=20
Ok, then let us proceed to property number
2. Please read?
-no ma’am

Very good!

congruent.
To illustrate, we have here a parallelogram

B C

A D

Where ∠A is congruent to ∠ C , ∠ B is
congruent to ∠ D .

For example:
In parallelogram HIJK, m∠ I =(4x+8)° and m -Students follow
∠ K =(6x-12)° . Find the measure of ∠ I and
m∠ K .
We have here a parallelogram.

H I
( 4 x+ 8)°

K (6 x−12)° J
Where ∠ I is congruent ∠ K
So, let us have this
4x+8=6x-12
4x-6x=-12-8
-2x=-20 -students follow.
-2x/-2=-20/-2
X=10
Therefore, the value of our x is 10.
Now, let us find the measure of ∠ I and m
∠K
m∠ I =¿4x+8 -students follow
=4(10)+8

=40 +8
m∠ I =¿48°

m∠ K =6x-12
=6(10)-12
=60-12 -students follow.
m∠ K =48°
therefore the m ∠ I is 48° and the m∠ K is
48° and it proves our property opposite
angles of a parallelogram are congruent.
Another example -students follow.
P Q
3x 96

S y+42 84 R
Find: a.)x
b.)y
c.)m∠ S
d.) m∠ P
okay, who can try to solve for the value of x
and y?

okay,very good! (one student will go to the board and

solve for the value of x.)
The value of our x is 28
∠ P≅∠ R
How about the value of our y? who can try 3x=84
3x/3=84/3
to solve on the board?
X=28

(one student will go to the board and

Okay,very good
solve for the value of y)
And the value of our y is 54. ∠ S ≅ ∠Q
Y+42=96
So, we have now the value of our x and y.
Y=96-42
Who can try to solve for the measure of ∠ S Y=54
and ∠ P

(2 students will go to the board. 1

student will solve for the m∠ S and
one student will solve for the m∠ P)
Okay,very good.
To verify m∠ P=84 and m∠ R=¿84 and m∠ S= y+42 m∠ P= 3x
their opposite angle are congruent, while m =54+42 =3(28)
m∠ S=96 m ∠ P =84
∠ Q =96 and m∠ S=96 and their opposite
angles are congruent also and it prove our
property opposite angles of a parallelogram
are congruent.

Do you understand class?

Any question or clarification?
