Video reflection

I have been teaching writing lesson in language art class for three weeks. I had taught

descriptive paragraph, narrative paragraph and expository paragraph. As I had to teach four

classes in each lesson, every first class of the lesson was challenging for me. I felt nervous about

my lesson. I worried that students already knew the lesson and lesson might be a bit bored for the

students. However, I felt confident about my lesson after teaching first class because I reflected

my teaching and lesson at the end of the lesson. After I reflected myself, I changed some part of

my teaching styles like asking different questions to be able to interact more with students, so

that students will understand more. As I used to ask the prior knowledge before I began the

lesson, I get to know what students have not learned and what students need to learn in this

lesson. In addition, students enjoy the activities that I provided for them. However, they usually

asked me to see the sample of paragraph.

What I need to improve in my lesson was my tone. My voice was not loud and clear for

student. Every time I plan the lesson, I had practiced two or three times. However, when I taught

the first class, my voice was not loud enough for the students. I need to practice more on my

tones and speak louder. Moreover, my revision for previous lesson took long and I started late

for next lesson. I usually planned to review only five minutes in the beginning of the lesson, but I

spent more than 10 minutes to review every lesson and I had to rush for next lesson. I lost some

of my teaching times and I felt like not enough time for the lesson. What I need to improve in my
lesson plan was I should summarize the previous lesson. Instead of reviewing everything, I

should just remind main point of each lesson. Another thing is that when I was asking for

student’s response, there were only a few students who were active and wanted to answer every

questions. Actually, I was looking to buy the ice stick because I want to write their names on the

ice stick and I can call out the name randomly, so that every random student can interact and

share their opinions. Not remembering every students was also my weakness. One more thing is

that I should not be too flexible with students because I should be firm when I deal with students

who are misbehaving. Students used to forget to raise their hand before they ask questions. I

always had to remind them, it delayed my lesson too. Therefore, I should strict the rules and

should create reinforcement and punishment for misbehaving students.

As I felt about myself that I need to improve more in asking questions and improving my

tones, I planned to write every questions what I am going to ask in the lesson plan, so that my

questions will be clear and understandable for students. And I will include the activity which

students will enjoy. I will be firm with classroom rules and manage students to be quiet in the

class.
