School Dropout Reduction Program (S-DORP) Plan

Title: Pag-asa na Bayan, Huwag Pabayaan

Proponent: Ronald B. Gapusan, Ph.D.

Principal II

School: Sanchez Mira School of Arts and Trades

Sanchez Mira, Cagayan

Division: Cagayan

I. SITUATIONER

Of the six secondary schools in the town of Sanchez Mira, the Sanchez Mira
School of Arts and Trades situated along the Maharlika Highway and barely 2
kilometers from the town proper has been the biggest in terms of student population
and has also been recognized as a Regional ICT Technical-Vocational School.
However, most of the entrants from Sanchez Mira, lower Apayao and Pamplona, a
nearby municipality, belong to poor families who derive their survival needs through
farming, fishing and carpentry.

In addition, most of those in the lower sections exhibit poor comprehension

skills in English which can possibly affect their performance in Mathematics and lack
of interest in other academic subjects.

Having limited funds for food and transportation and lacking in

comprehension skills and academic interest, they are likely to become Students at
Risk of Dropping Out (SARDO). Moreover, serving a big number of students, the
school has a high percentage of dropouts.

dropouts. It is also expected that there will be an affirmative working relationship
between and among the stakeholders of the school.
V. SUSTAINABILITY
To encourage SARDO’s not to get absent and to finish their schooling and to
captivate their academic interest, teachers must develop creativity and innovativeness
in their teaching strategies, preferably by using multi-media assisted teaching and
learning, especially now that students are global.
Through a group of well-trained computer education teachers in the school who
are even recognized as NC II passers, as well as online exam passers, other teachers
can easily be trained along the use of the computer for the teaching-learning process.
The following strategies will be carried out:

SARDO’s, their subject teachers, advisers and their parents.
2. The school will prepare the necessary documents and forms of SARDO’s.

on the progress of the beneficiaries.
