Schools Division of Cagayan
Division: Cagayan
I. SITUATIONER
Of the six secondary schools in the town of Sanchez Mira, the Sanchez Mira
School of Arts and Trades situated along the Maharlika Highway and barely 2
kilometers from the town proper has been the biggest in terms of student population
and has also been recognized as a Regional ICT Technical-Vocational School.
However, most of the entrants from Sanchez Mira, lower Apayao and Pamplona, a
nearby municipality, belong to poor families who derive their survival needs through
farming, fishing and carpentry.
II. OBJECTIVES
A. To mitigate or eliminate the number of school leavers;
B. To improve rates in parts in participation, retention and achievement of
students;
C. To address the individuals’ learning needs through interventions; and
D. To intensify partnership with civic-spirited individuals in the community
specifically the alumni/ alumnae of the school.
III. DESCRIPTION AND STRATEGIES
The following are the major causes of high percentage of dropouts at SMSAT
and remedies to be employed:
4. Right at the start of the school year, each entrant is encouraged to save P1.00
each day in the SMSAT Multi-purpose Cooperative for the opening of Mag-
impok ng Piso para sa Pag-aaral Ko Program.
5. Alumni/ alumnae and other civic-minded people in the community are
encouraged to donate either in cash or in kind for SARDO’s.
*With the aforementioned strategies, the subject teachers/ advisers will meet
on a regular basis with the parents of SARDO’s to inform them of what is
happening to their child/ children in order to get their support.
IV. EXPECTED RESULTS
It is envisioned that this program will bring down the high percentage of
dropouts. It is also expected that there will be an affirmative working relationship
between and among the stakeholders of the school.
V. SUSTAINABILITY
To encourage SARDO’s not to get absent and to finish their schooling and to
captivate their academic interest, teachers must develop creativity and innovativeness
in their teaching strategies, preferably by using multi-media assisted teaching and
learning, especially now that students are global.
Through a group of well-trained computer education teachers in the school who
are even recognized as NC II passers, as well as online exam passers, other teachers
can easily be trained along the use of the computer for the teaching-learning process.
The following strategies will be carried out:
A. School
1. The school head and the department heads conduct interviews with
SARDO’s, their subject teachers, advisers and their parents.
2. The school will prepare the necessary documents and forms of SARDO’s.
3. The school will conduct close monitoring of attendance and keep record
on the progress of the beneficiaries.
4. The school will prepare and submit to the Division DORP reports on the
results and status of the Pag-asa ng Bayan, Huwag Pabayaan.
B. Linkages
1. Regular Teacher-Parent Conference will be conducted.
2. Meeting with the student beneficiaries will be made to update them about
their progress.
3. Coordination with alumni/alumnae will be done to inform them of the
progress of the beneficiaries of the scholarship grants they sponsor.
4. Barangay GMAC will be furnished with a list of students residing in the
same barangay.
5. Tie-up with barangay officials where they help track the status of
SARDO’s.
