I. Title of the Program: Contextualization and Localization in Appropriate Instructional

Materials

II. Rationale

Contextualizing learning materials allows students to master a variety of

competencies that are essential for success in education and learning. The term "contextualization"
refers to the use of language in a meaningful and appropriate context. This aids the acquisition of new
skills and knowledge by the students. It also helps them to improve their skills and attitudes. It will
also encourage them to participate in the learning process.

III. Program or Course Description

This training will help teachers to be more effective in teaching through contextualizing and
localizing instructional materials.

IV. Professional Development Priorities

Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 stipulates to make
education learner-centered, inclusive and developmentally appropriate. It also specifies that
curriculum shall be flexible enough to enable and allow schools to localize, indigenize and enhance
the same based on their respective educational and social contexts. As a result, contextualization
becomes a key or priority of the department of education, as mandated by law. As educators, we need
to re-orient ourselves in order to deliver learning effectively. This training supports the following
domains and characteristics of quality teachers:
A. provide education which is learner-centered, inclusive and developmentally appropriate

B. provide education that is relevant, responsive, gender and culture-sensitive

C. provide education that is contextualized and global
