Continuing Education amidst Pandemic

“Times of transition are strenuous, but I love them. They are an opportunity to purge, rethink
priorities, and be intentional about new habits. We can make our new normal any way we
want”.
Education is very important in our lives because it is a medium of acquiring knowledge
and skills, it is more than just learning from books. It also plays a vital role in shaping successful
people, it gives us the opportunity to become a productive member of the society, moreover
high quality education enable us to lead a successful life, enhances our intelligence, skills,
knowledge and brings positive changes in our lives.
In this time of pandemic education becomes even more challenging because it is clear
that this covid-19 has utterly disrupted an education system that many assert was already
losing its relevance. Teachers are concerned about the safety, well-being and inclusiveness of
remote teaching. At the same time they want high quality education. Transferring teaching and
learning to the new context is not easy. Teachers need the skills and ideas to operate in the
new normal learning environment. They need to be empowered to organize and manage a high
level of teaching and learning.
At present schools are continuing to focus on traditional academic skills and rote
learning rather than on skill such as critical thinking and adaptability, which will be more
important for success in the future. Another problem that we are encountering today is that
the level of students engagement in modular distance learning, are they ready enough to study
on their own? Or can they make it on their own? These are some things that we need to
consider in distance learning. As I had observed some of our students find it difficult to keep up
with distance learning.
This time of pandemic we must protect our students’ right to learn. Only through
education can people build the skills and resources they need to best respond to crisis like the
one we are currently facing. Covid-19 pandemic have huge impacts on students learning across
the world. As a teacher it is important to think of another methods to facilitate distance
learning that is favorable to all, like Radio broadcasting in areas without the internet
connections, by calling our students thru phone specially those who are struggling learners, I
would like also to suggest to at least visit our students to monitor them and at least help them
with their subject. It is also important to provide them encouragement for continuing their
studies at home, keep them informed on how to stay safe and healthy and help them navigate
challenges to returning to school.
The pandemic is also an opportunity to remind ourselves of the skills of the students
need in this unpredictable world such as informed decision-making creative problem solving
and perhaps above all adaptability. To ensure those skills remain a priority for all students,
resilience must be built into our educational system as well. If there’s one lesson from the
pandemic, it’s the need to be nimble and adaptable.
