1. LT-09: DIRECT PRESSURE / PRESSURE DROP TECHNIQUE “B”, CHARTED

1. Extent of examination: 100% of specified weld joint(s).

2. Equipment:

• Test liquid is water at a pressure not to exceed the calculated test pressure of the equipment
being tested.

• Calibrated Chart recorded to track pressure and temperature.

3. Surface cleanliness: no cleaning required other than new welds to be examined as part of
construction package.

4. Method or Technique:

• Apply desired pressure __________.

• Monitor for pressure drop and check system for visible leaks. Visible or other leaks at
flanges, threads, etc., must be fixed prior to commencement of test period.

• Wind and start pressure / temperature recorder. Initial and date chart at start of test and
ensure chart time aligns with real time.

• The system being tested shall be between 40ºF and 125ºF during test.

• Monitor test for desired duration (normally 24 or 48 hours).

5. Test is considered acceptable if any observed pressure drop can be positively attributed to rise
and fall in test commodity temperature.

6. No post cleaning should be required depending on normal line commodity and test liquid.

7. Where repairs are required the equipment will be depressurized, repaired in accordance with the
applicable code section and the test repeated.

8. The date and signature of the inspector appearing on the test chart will indicate acceptance of the
test.
