1. LT-05: DIRECT PRESSURE / PRESSURE DROP TECHNIQUE, CHARTED

1. Extent of examination: 100% of specified weld joint(s).

2. Equipment:

• Test gas / liquid is air / water at a pressure not to exceed the MAWP of the equipment being
tested.

Note: Inert gas may be used. Safety aspects of oxygen deficient atmospheres should
be considered.

• Bubble solution is “Snoop” # __________.

• Calibrated Chart recorded to track pressure and temperature.

3. Surface cleanliness: no cleaning required.

4. Method or Technique:

• Apply desired pressure __________.

• Monitor for pressure drop and check system for visible leaks. Visible or other leaks at
flanges, threads, etc., must be fixed prior to commencement of test period.

• Wind and start pressure / temperature recorder. Initial and date chart at start of test and
ensure chart time aligns with real time.

• The system being tested shall be between 40ºF and 125ºF during test.

• This test method may be a combination of liquid and gas provided no pressure drop would be
expected by mixing.

• Monitor test for desired duration (normally 24 or 48 hours).

5. Test is considered acceptable if any observed pressure drop can be positively attributed to rise
and fall in test commodity temperature.

6. Not post cleaning should be required depending on normal line commodity and test gas / liquid.

7. Where repairs are required the equipment will be depressurized, repaired in accordance with the
applicable code section and the test repeated.
