1. LT-08: HYDROTEST GAUGE CALIBRATION

1.1 SCOPE

Procedure for calibration of gauges used for hydrotests within the scope of the Methanex Quality Control
Manual for pressure systems under the jurisdiction of Alberta Boilers Safety Association.

1.2 RESPONSIBILITY

It is the responsibility of the I/E co-ordinator to ensure compliance with this procedure.

1.3 PROCEDURE

1. Gauges shall be identified sequentially within the scope of inventory of test gauges. A prefix of
HT to identify the gauge as a hydro test gauge followed by a unique number for each gauge.

2. Gauges acceptance criteria for calibration shall ± 4% of the checkpoint unless specified and
approved otherwise by the inspector.

3. The gauge shall be checked and must be within tolerance at 25%, 50% and 75% of gauge range.
Results shall be logged on the calibration log sheet for each gauge. A sample calibration log
sheet is part of this procedure (see LT-08A)

4. After gauge is satisfactorily calibrated, a sticker shall be applied indicating the “Retest Date” and if
required the gauge number.

5. The calibration frequency and general requirements for hydro test gauges shall be in accordance
with the requirements of the registered Quality Control Manual.

6. Standard gauge ranges use for hydrostatic testing are normally imperial units (psi) and for the
following ranges 0 to 200 psi, 600 psi, 1500 psi, 3000 psi and 5000 psi. Other gauges’ ranges
may also be calibrated using this procedure but the acceptance criteria should be verified by the
inspector.

7. Gauges which fail and cannot be brought back into calibration shall be scrapped. A new gauge of
the same range shall be selected and assigned the same number as the scrapped gauge,
appropriate rates made on the calibration log and calibrations sequence continued on the same
log sheet.
