SSG with a Heart (Volunteering for Taal Evacuees) Narrative Report

“Being of service to others is what brings true happiness”. This quote by Marie Osmond reflects the
SSG officers of Calatagan National High School as they volunteer and eagerly help the victims of Taal eruption
that happened in the first month of year 2020. Many people from Agoncillo, Taal and other nearby towns of
Calatagan that was affected by the said incident are evacuated in the public schools of Calatagan, including
Calatagan National High School.

SSG officers with cooperative students of CNHS are gathered to serve evacuees with the best possible
help. All of them are willing to provide assistance that would become a method of extending love and
compassion in that hard situation; from sending donations, either in cash or relief goods/cloths, and serving them
through entertainment and lending moral and spiritual support. Giving time and energy for the sake of others and
lifting the burden of others while leaving behind their own is not an easy task, but the most fulfilling one could
ever have done.

From the start, when Taal eruption victims were evacuated in Calatagan National High
School, SSG officers willingly help the teachers and other faculty members of CNHS in assisting the
evacuees. They encourage other students of CNHS to also help in any possible way. They donate,
help in distributing reliefs to every evacuee, made enjoyable programs with the help of other
organization officers, and keep entertain the affected children.

Volunteering has become their way of bringing happiness not just to others but also to
themselves. It is also their way of fulfilling their responsibility and showing their love to the
community. Volunteering serves as their training in building a sense of community. Despite tiredness
and exhaustion, they continue to serve whenever they see the smile in the eyes of every evacuee.

Truly, serving others can bring true happiness and those who do most for others are the
happiest. This incident was a great opportunity to meet new people and make an impact on their
lives in terms of helping and serving.
