ABSTRACT

Rehabilitation describes specialized healthcare dedicated to improving,


maintaining or restoring physical strength, cognition and mobility with
maximized results.

Typically, rehabilitation helps people gain greater independence after


illness, injury or surgery.

Rehabilitation of people with disabilities is a process aimed at enabling


them to reach and maintain their optimal physical, sensory, intellectual,
psychological and social functional level.

It involves a team of physicians, specially trained therapists, and


nurses, as well as psychologists, nutritionists, biomedical engineers, and
chaplains forms a circle of care centered around the patient and their
family.
There many types of rehabilitation centers some specialize in helping
patients with a specific drug addiction, aged, handicap or disable
people and others offer a broader range of drug addiction services.

Some rehab (rehabilitation) facilities are even gender or age specific,


as this often helps patients feel more comfortable in the rehab
(rehabilitation) setting.

INTRODUCTION
Rehabilitation is the processes of helping an individual achieve
the highest level of function, independence, and quality of life
possible. Rehabilitation does not reverse or undo the damage
caused by disease or trauma, but rather helps restore the
individual to optimal health, functioning, and well-being.
The rehabilitation process uses an interdisciplinary team of
health care professionals to help a person to reach their fullest
physical, psychological, social, vocational, a vocational, and
educational potential consistent with his or her goals and life
plans. Residential rehabilitation
- rehab for short - describes a drug or alcohol treatment
programme that is provided in a residential setting. Rehabs are
usually abstinence-based and provide an intense programme of
support and care aimed at people who have difficulty
becoming drug free in the community.

It always delivered by a diverse team of experts, rehabilitation blends


many specialties for the best treatment plan, such as physical
therapy for increased strength and mobility, Occupational
therapy for improved everyday living skills, and Speech and
language therapy for improved communication.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
drug addiction is condition which characterized by an overwhelming
desire to continue taking a drug through which one has become
habituated for repeated consumption.

At present, drug addiction is one of the serious problems which affect


not only the addicted people but also the society as a whole.

Substance (alcohol, chat/khat, weed, cigarette) abuse is becoming


normalized in ETHIOPIA. The issue has been a major concern for the
country at large.

This problem becomes common in Ethiopia recently which resulted in


different socio-economic problems.

Which one has become habituated for repeated consumption. At


present, drug addiction is one of the serious problems which affect not
only the addicted people but also the society as a whole. Drug abuse is
an intense and often willful misuse of drugs. The overdrew of substance
or drugs leads to addiction. In the eastern world the incidence shows a
decline or a static pattern but the number of drug addicts is still
enormous.
The major abusive drugs are heroin and marijuana but designer
drugs(cannabinoids)have shown on the peak. The aim of the study is to
determine the ratio of the drug abuse in student.
For this purpose, we were selected different institutes, including two
private universities and two government universities and conducted
survey in 500 students. High proportion of students was found abusing
drugs. From this study, we came across multiple factors which are

the main cause of drug abuse in medical student including depression,
anxiety, peer pressure, schizophrenia, as well as personality disorder.

The most commonly abused drugs include stimulants,


opioids, and benzodiazepines, antihistamines and LSD. Although survey
have indicated high rate of illicit and prescription drugs misuse among
college students.

Drug abuse regarded as a personality disorder, also be seen as


worldwide epidemic with evolutionary genetic, physiology and
environmental influences controlling and affecting human behavior.
Globally, the use has reached all-time high.
The study showed males are more drug abusers as compared to
females.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


1. Why this people inter to addicted drugs?
2. Why/how this people can’t stop using this drug?
3. What is the effect of this drug abuse in the wolaita sodo city?
4. Constricting rehabilitation center in wolaita sodo is necessary!

Simply a rehabilitation center is a facility that seeks to help


individuals recover from a variety of ailments, some physical and others
caused by substance abuse or mental illness.
Rehabilitation center are not only for treating drug addicts but are also
for the treatments depressions cause by the scio- economical problems
such low income, unemployment which times might result in mental
disorders.

The availability of rehabilitation centers have the capacity to
improve many lives, by solving of many problems in terms of quality of
human health in the communities and the society at large.

HYPOTHESIS
If the different conditions such us behavioral, invaromental,
psychological and socio-economical conditions are the risen which
can push the people inter to drugs addiction, thus one of the basic
necessary and essential things for that people are providing the
rehabilitation center

From the total respondents of habit of substance use,
chewing chat was practiced by 31(6.0%) of the respondents
and from which 13(41.9%) were chewing chat every day.
Fifteen (2.9%) smoke cigarette and 20(3.9%) drink alcohol

OBJECTIVE
The objective of selecting to this project is solving the problem which
related to the drug addicted people and the consequence which
affect in their community’s level especially in productive citizens

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and social learning

; these are programmer that include psychological treatments such


as CBT, in which actions are believed to influence future behavior.
The V Program for Domestic Violence people are the psycho-
education class. Psychoeducation is a treatment that instructs people
about their problem, how to treat their problem, and how to
recognize the signs of reoccurrence so the offender can go to
treatment before the problem comes back. Psycho-education
programs include cognitive behavioral techniques and motivational
Personal and skills development;

the programme in a service operating a personal or skills


development model may focus less on psychological therapeutic
interventions and more on the practical skills and knowledge needed
to get by in the wider community.

They may be closely linked with local education or employment


training providers and residents will spend much of their time in
structured programmes of educational classes, training activities and
group work. There may also be opportunities for work experience

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
This project mainly focuses on drug addicted people. What is beneft
of using this rehabilitation center for wolaita sodo community’s?

for example: when the person stops using the addicted drugs (after
recovery), the benefit from this project are; in individual, family, to
community level by maximizing the capacity of citizen in potentially,
mentally, and psychologically to bring competent and dynamic citizens.
Generally The usage of rehabilitation centers.
A rehabilitation center will offer one or more of these therapies on
premises. A rehabilitation center may be out patient only.
Some hospitals offer in-patient rehabilitation. There are many different
types of drug rehab facilities. There many types of rehabilitation centers
some specialize in helping patients with a specific drug addiction;
others offer a broader range of drug addiction services.

Some rehab facilities are even gender- or age-specific, as this often


helps patients feel more comfortable in the rehab setting. Inpatient and
outpatient rehab facilities are also available A patient may take
medication to control mental or physical drug abuse triggers. This
medical treatment can be short term or long term, depending on the
patient's circumstances and needs. A rehabilitation center is a facility
that seeks to help individuals recover from a variety of ailments, some
physical and others caused by substance abuse or mental illness.
Some centers offer residential areas, where those being treated will stay
overnight. Others are strictly outpatient facilities. Many will specialize in
either physical rehabilitation, or substance abuse rehabilitation.

CONCLUSION
In this study most of the youths are addicted for more than
one
drug. The most common drugs in this area are khat, alcohol
and
cigarette. The cause of drug addiction of youths in this
study is
enjoyment purpose, unemployment, failure in academic
achievement,
family disagreement, hopelessness, peer pressure. Seventy
percent
(70%) have positive attitude toward drug addiction, 65.38%
do not
know about the consequence of drug addiction, 25%
suffered from
drug addiction related health problem, 30% had economic
problem
and 45% had social problem due to their drug dependence.
Based on the findings of the study the following
recommendations
are made:
The town administrator should inform the youths, about
the health
and socioeconomic problems associated with substance
use.
Interventional activities to bring about behavioral changes

among
youths on the danger of use of Khat, alcohol and other
drugs are
recommended.
Further study needs to be conducted to explore in to the
association
between substance use and HIV infection among different
groups in
Ethiopia.
