Es lo mismo que decir en español “un/una”, ambos van antes que un sustantivo y se
diferencian en lo siguiente:
A: se usa antes de una consonante: A house A man A bug
An: se usa antes de una vocal: An elephant An ice An apartment
Por lo tanto para usar a o an, el objeto a continuación debe ser singular. Es decir, debe ser
solo 1 objeto y no terminar en -s

They are going to build __ university near my house.
She arrived __ hour later.

without states.
NEGATIVE FORM
There isn't a/an + singular countable noun There isn't an Apple
There isn't any + uncountable noun There isn't any bread
There aren't any + plural noun There aren't any fruits
INTERROGATIVE FORM
Is there a + singular countable noun? Is there a fish?
Is there any + uncountable noun? Is there any water?
Are there + plural noun? Are there any apples?
