TASK 26−11−00−710−801
Operational Test of the Nacelle Fire Detection System
1. General
A. The maintenance procedure that follows is for the operational test of the nacelle fire detection
system. It also tests the control and indication portion of the nacelle fire extinguishing system.
The nacelle fire detection system is installed in the nacelles. The procedure that is given is for the
left and right side.

3. Job Set−Up
Subtask 26−11−00−910−001

A. Obey all the electrical/electronic safety precautions (Refer to TASK 24−00−00−910−801 ).

Subtask 26−11−00−861−003

B. Make sure the aircraft electrical system is energized (Refer to TASK 24−00−00−861−801).

C. Make sure that the circuit breakers that follow are closed:

4. Procedure
Subtask 26−11−00−700−001

A. Do an operational test of the nacelles fire detection and extinguishing systems as follows:
(1) Hold the TEST CAUT/ADVSY switch, located on the Advisory/Passenger Warning Signs
Panel to the ADVSY position, and make sure that all the advisory lights on the fire control
panel come on.
(2) Hold the TEST CAUT/ADVSY switch, located on the Advisory/Passenger Warning Signs
Panel to the CAUT position, and make sure all the caution and warning lights on the caution
and warning annunciator panel come on.
(3) Release the TEST CAUT/ADVSY switch.
(4) On the fire control panel, make sure the following indicator lights are not on:
(a) Eng 1 FAULT A
(b) Eng 1 FAULT B
(c) Eng 2 FAULT A
(d) Eng 2 FAULT B
(e) BTL LOW
(f) ENG 1 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF
(g) ENG 2 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF
(h) ENG 1 FWD BTL
(i) ENG 1 AFT BTL
(j) ENG 2 FWD BTL
(k) ENG 2 AFT BTL
(5) On the glareshield panel, make sure the pilot and co−pilot ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO
RESET warning lights are not on.
(6) On the caution and warning annunciator panel, make sure the CHECK FIRE DET warning
light is not on.
(7) On the fire protection panel, hold the TEST DETECTION switch to the ENGINE 1 position
and make sure you see the following conditions:

(a) On the caution and warning annunciator panel:


1. The CHECK FIRE DET red warning light flashes.
(b) On the glareshield panel:
1. The WARNING PRESS TO RESET red light flashes.
NOTE: Do not press the WARNING PRESS TO RESET red light indicator.
2. Both the pilot and co−pilot ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET red lights flash.
NOTE: Do not press the ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET red light indicator.
(c) On the fire protection panel:
1. The ENGINE 1 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF handle red light comes on.
2. The ENGINE 1 FAULT A amber indicator light comes on.
3. The ENGINE 1 FAULT B amber indicator light comes on.
4. The ENGINE 1 FWD BTL amber indicator does not come on.
5. The ENGINE 1 AFT BTL amber indicator does not come on.
6. The BTL LOW amber indicator does not come on.
(d) Make sure that an audible warning sound is heard over the headsets and audio
system.
(8) Release the TEST DETECTION switch on the fire control panel to the center position.
WARNING: DO NOT MOVE THE EXTG SWITCH TO THE AFT BTL OR THE FWD BTL
POSITION. IF YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL RELEASE THE PRESSURE FROM
THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONNEL.
(9) Pull the ENGINE 1 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF handle and make sure you see the following
conditions:
(a) On the caution and warning annunciator panel:
1. The CHECK FIRE DET red warning light is not on.
(b) On the fire control panel:
1. ENG BTL LOW amber light is not on.
2. ENG 1 FWD BTL arm amber light is on.
3. ENG 1 AFT BTL arm amber light is on.
4. ENG 2 FWD BTL arm amber light is not on.
5. ENG 2 AFT BTL arm amber light is not on.
6. VALVES FUEL OPEN green light is not on.
7. VALVES FUEL CLOSED white light is on.
8. HYD OPEN green light is not on.
9. HYD CLOSED white light is on.

(10) Push the ENGINE 1 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF handle back to the fire control panel.
(11) On the fire protection panel, move and hold the TEST DETECTION switch to the ENGINE 2
position and make sure you see the following conditions:
(a) On the caution and warning annunciator panel:
1. The CHECK FIRE DET red warning light flashes.
(b) On the glareshield panel:
1. The WARNING PRESS TO RESET red light flashes.
NOTE: Do not press the WARNING PRESS TO RESET red light indicator.
2. Both the pilot and co−pilot ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET red lights flash.
NOTE: Do not press the ENGINE FIRE PRESS TO RESET red light indicator.
(c) On the fire protection panel:
1. The ENGINE 2 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF handle red light comes on.
2. The ENGINE 2 FAULT A amber indicator light comes on.
3. The ENGINE 2 FAULT B amber indicator light comes on.
4. The ENGINE 2 FWD BTL amber indicator does not come on.
5. The ENGINE 2 AFT BTL amber indicator does not come on.
6. The BTL LOW amber indicator does not come on.
(d) Make sure that an audible warning sound is heard over the headsets and audio
system.
(12) Release the TEST DETECTION switch on the fire control panel to the center position.
WARNING: DO NOT MOVE THE EXTG SWITCH TO THE AFT BTL OR THE FWD BTL
POSITION. IF YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL RELEASE THE PRESSURE FROM
THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONNEL.
(13) Pull the ENGINE 2 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF handle and make sure you see the following
conditions:
(a) On the caution and warning annunciator panel:
1. The CHECK FIRE DET red warning light is not on.
(b) On the fire control panel:
1. ENG BTL LOW amber light is not on.
2. ENG 2 FWD BTL arm amber light is on.
3. ENG 2 AFT BTL arm amber light is on.
4. ENG 1 FWD BTL arm amber light is not on.
5. ENG 1 AFT BTL arm amber light is not on.
6. VALVES FUEL OPEN green light is not on.

7. VALVES FUEL CLOSED white light is on.


8. HYD OPEN green light is not on.
9. HYD CLOSED white light is on.
(14) Push the ENGINE 2 PULL FUEL/HYD OFF handle back to the fire control panel

5. Close Out

A. Make sure the aircraft electrical system is de−energized (Refer to TASK 24−00−00−861−802).

B. Remove all tools, equipment, and unwanted materials from the work area.
