Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed; we can only change its forms, using
appropriate energy-conversion processes .
Introduction to DC generators; Basic parts and functions of DC GENERATORS also includes
theoretical concept and derivation of formulas involve in propagation of electricity.
IV. DESIRED LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. The student must have a strong foundation on applied theories and principles of
DC machines currently used in the field as basic requirements of an electrical
system.
2. The student’s analytical skills and logical thinking was developed in exploring
recent technology and its application.

Perform what is being asked with compete solution (and schematic drawing if necessary).
1. A 4 pole, simplex wave wound generator has 57 slots, what is the coil pitch?
2. What is the commutator pitch of a 4 pole, duplex wave wound armature having 120 commutator bars?
3. The difference between the front pitch and the back pitch of retrogressive lap winding is 2. If the front pitch is 21,
what is the back pitch?
4. How many parallel paths there will be in the armature of a 10 pole machine if the armature is simplex lap wound?
5. What is the average voltage generated in a moving conductor if it cuts 2.5x10 6 maxwells in 1/40 second?
6. An 8 pole dc machine has a simplex wave wound armature with a current rating of 110A. determine the current
per paths.
7. A six pole dynamo, with interpoles, requires 360 conductors on its armature with 3 turns per coil and 2 coil sides
per slot . determine the number of coils , slots, and commutator bars.
8. When a generator is being driven at 1200rpm, the generated emff is 230V, what is the generated emf if the field
flux is decreased by 10% with the speed remain unchanged?
9. A separately excited generator has a noload terminal voltage of 230V when driven at 1200rpm with the field
current set to 10A. neglecting saturation, find the speed in rpm so that generated voltage is 200V with the field
current constant at 10A.
10. What is the voltage induced in the armature winding of a 4 pole wave wound dc machine having 728 active
conductors and running at 1600rpm? The flux per pole is 30mWb.
