Specification for limited engine operation on no-load or low load

This Bulletin is issued to give information in case of limited engine operation and which
corrective actions should be taken to avoid damage.

Minimum allowable load for continuous operation: 25% of fuel stop power
Maximum allowable operating time at no load, Hi Idle : 1 hour
Maximum allowable operating time at no load, Low Idle : 2 hour

After a period of 1 hour running at 25% of fuel stop power or below, the engine must be loaded
to 60% of fuel stop power or more for a period of ½ hour or more.

Possible problems when running outside limits stated above:

1) Oil leakage from exhaust system;
Continuous operation on no-load or low-load causes un-burnt fuel and oil mist to condense
in the exhaust system. Which may result in leakage through the exhaust connections.

2) Carbon deposits on cylinder heads and exhaust manifold;

Un-burnt fuel, Oil mist and soot deposit may polute the exhaust ports on the cylinder heads
and the exhaust manifold, damaging the performance of the engine.

3) Corrosive damage;
Lower exhaust gas temperature may result in condense of sulfuric acids in the exhaust
system, causing corrosive damage.

4) Fuel dilution;
Because of decreased combustion efficiency the un-burnt fuel can dilute the lubrication oil,
resulting in decreased lubrication properties of the oil and increased wear of rotating parts.

5) White smoke;
Excessive un-burnt fuel will appear as white smoke from the exhaust stack, it smells and
irritates the eyes.
