TEACHER HANDOUT

A. The teacher will provide a checklist on the parts of a plant cell and an animal cell. The learners will fill-out the
table by putting a check mark if the part is present in a plant cell or in an animal cell.

Checklist

Plant cell Animal cell

Golgi apparatus ✔ ✔
Mitochondrion ✔ ✔
Lysosome ✔ ✔
Cytoplasm ✔ ✔
Centriole ✔
Ribosome ✔ ✔
Vacuole ✔ ✔
Chloroplast ✔
Cell wall ✔
Nucleus ✔ ✔
Smooth ER ✔ ✔
Rough ER ✔ ✔

Nucleolus ✔ ✔

B. Let the learners discuss what are their learnings from the checklist. The teacher will give emphasis on the parts
that are present in a plant cell only and the parts present in an animal cell only. The teacher also ask the learners
to enumerate all the common parts of a cell.

C. The teacher will show the students a picture puzzle. The teacher may cut three to five pieces of a manila paper
enough to cover the picture. Everytime a learner gives the correct answer, a part of the picture puzzle will be
revealed. Once the picture is revealed, let the learners analyze and describe the puzzle.
Note: This is a suggested picture, the teacher may change it to facilitate better learning.

TEACHER HANDOUT

D. The teacher introduces the lesson by using the picture of a factory. Analyzing the picture of the factory, it has
different sections and function/s that can be compared to the different organelles in a plant cell or in an
animal cell. Elicit possible answer from the learners.

E. The teacher will write the information in a bond paper or manila paper strip then give the paper strips to the
volunteer learners and let them match the picture, the job in the factory, the organelle and the function of the
organelle.

Job in the factory Cell Organelle Function of the organelle
Headquarters of the factory where Nucleus Control center of the cell
managers will give smooth
instruction
Main electric station in the factory mitochondrion Provides energy to the cell
where energy is supplied
An assembly line where the Endoplasmic reticulum Transport of materials to the
workers do their work and an different parts of the cell
immediate site to the headquarters SER – site for protein synthesis
where the products are produce
Security gate that keeps the cell Cell wall Protects the cell, provides rigidity
safe
“kitchen” or the food production of chloroplast Food is produced/main site for
the factory photosynthesis
In the factory it is where the Golgi apparatus “sorting center of the cell” where
products are classified and proteins are chemically tagged to
addressed reach the correct location
Compound wall and guarded gate Cell membrane Specialized channel for entry and
exit guarded by proteins
Maintenance/janitor crew – break lysosome “digestive system of the cell”
down, clean up and repair items
Break room – storage for food vacuole Holds waste and stores water
items and place to get rid of trash

F. The teacher can use think-pair-share strategy where the learners will choose their pair and share with each other
what they have learned from the topic. Volunteer students will share in front of the class what transpired during
the said activity.

G. The teacher will ask the learners to make an analogy of the parts of the cell function in a classroom setting
through illustration. The learners will identify the other learners as organelles depending on what is their attitude
or what they usually do while they are in school/in the classroom. The analogy can be teacher as the nucleus, the
door serves as the cell membrane and the students as the organelles.

H. The teacher will construct a word cryptogram.
A. The teacher will check the level of understanding of the learners by unscrambling the letters then name the
cell part counterpart of each part of a factory.
Direction: Unscramble the letter by placing the correct letter in the second row of boxes to come up with the
correct answer. Use the numbered boxes to complete the answer to the riddle below.
