4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill 2020

(Narrative Report)

Introduction
Keeping the pupils out of harm’s way and preventing untoward incidents is quite
laborious, but these efforts is no match to the lives that will be saved and the peace of mind that
will be brought about by applying these measures.
Unlike lessons, maturity cannot be taught; that it why some pupils aren’t internalizing the
importance of preventing hazards and doing drills. But in place of maturity, these pupils can last
through survival instincts paired with good judgement that can be achieved by repetitively
subjecting them in lectures and drills that ensures safety.
This narrative report is made in order to keep track of the development of disaster risk
reduction in Tawog Elementary School through participating in hazard detection and removal
activities and regular earthquake drills. This report also notes the difficulties met in the said
endeavors and the proposed way to alleviate their chances in the future.

A. BEFORE
Before the scheduled conduct of the drill, Tawog Elementary School coordinated
with the Local DRRM Council though Kim Lauron, City DRRM Officer. Fortunately,
Carcar City Bureau of Fire protection (BFP) headed by FO2 Lumauag, JVC also
participated on the said event. Teachers, headed by School DRRM Coordinator, Corazon
E. Unabia, together with the pupils joined during the drill last November 14, 2019 at
exactly 9:00 0’clock in the morning.
Before the conduct of the drill, Corazon E. Unabia, School DRRM Coordinator of
Tawog Elementary School, discussed on what to do during the drill. They were guided on
the evacuation route on where to pass during the evacuation phase. (Copy of the request
letter are attached at the next page.)
B. DURING
C. AFTER

Due to some problems met during the carrying out of the aboved mentioned activities,
recommendations are as follows:
First, all participants must execute drop, hold and cover including the teachers.
Then we need to have alternate exit towards the evacuation site due to narrow
passageway.
Finally, it was indeed a success. Preparedness and mitigation are key strategies in
reducing disaster risk. ( Earthquake Drill Evaluation Forms from CRDDMO and BFP are
attached at the back.)
