STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION’S RESPONSE TO COVID-19

March 12, 2020

Dear Le Moyne College Community,

The Student Government Association would like to show our support to all those who have been
impacted in any way by the spread of COVID-19, or the Coronavirus Disease. This is a very frustrating
and confusing time, not only for us on the Heights, but around the entire world.

Since the end of 2019, Coronavirus has quickly spread throughout the globe. The disease was
declared a national pandemic on March 11, and 1215 cases have been diagnosed in the US as of the
time of this statement’s completion. Many events worldwide are being precautionarily cancelled, and
schools and businesses have closed temporarily to prevent spreading.

With our limited information, the most we can encourage and ask of you, as Dolphins, is to stay
informed. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization are the
best sources of information. As you do to prevent the spread of other illnesses, make sure you wash
your hands fully and often, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid nonessential travel. Most
importantly, stay calm.

As you are aware, Le Moyne College’s administration has decided to temporarily suspend all activities
until Monday, March 23, at which point they will make a decision of how we will proceed. We have
taken planes, trains, boats, and buses around the world this break and have come in contact with
thousands, perhaps millions of people. We have no idea how many of us could’ve been exposed and
how many people we could expose upon returning to Le Moyne. Our professors, staff, and fellow
students with compromised immune systems would be at great risk if we continued with business as
usual. While some of these precautionary measures have significant effects, they are taken to prevent
something worse from occurring. Stay calm and stay tuned for more information and action.

We are aware that this is a scary time for a number of reasons. However, we should use this as time
to be grateful for our own health, and pray that this is only a brief, precautionary measure for Le
Moyne. We must stand for and with those who have been more greatly impacted by COVID-19,
specifically those who have been diagnosed, the countries that have been closed off, and the other
colleges and universities that have been closed for the whole remainder of the semester, including a
number of our Jesuit sister schools.

If you have any concerns or needs during this time, please do not hesitate to reach out to any member
of Student Government. We hope and look forward to seeing you in person on March 23.

Sincerely,
The Executive Board of the Le Moyne College Student Government Association
