For carriage way between 5.3m to 9.6m, only one lane of Class 70R or two lanes for
class a loading should be considered. Hence in our analysis, only IRC class a and 70R
loading is carried out via Pigeaud’s method.
In this figure, both IRC class a and b are given. The upper part is IRC class a and lower
part is for class b. For IRC class a, the maximum load is 114 ton and 114 ton for one pair
of wheel, so maximum load on single wheel is 57 ton, half of 114 ton.
For a RCC bridge, the slab panel of a reinforced concrete Tee beam and deck slab is 2.5m
wide between the main girder and 5m between the cross girder.
∴ L=5000mm
∴B=2500mm
Thickness of the slab= 200mm
Thickness of the wearing coat=75mm
Clear span=6000mm
∴ Panel size = 2.5m× 5m
After the dispersion of load through the wearing coat at 45° ,u is the dispersion of load
along the direction of w and v is along b.
∴v=b+2t= 400mm

ii. Analysis of Wheel W2 ( Unsymmetrical Load)
Patch 1 Patch 2
In fig.1, the wheel w2 is placed asymmetrically in the slab panel, but Pigeaud’s curve is
applicable only when load is placed at symmetrically on slab panel.
For the analysis of w2, the imaginary load is placed symmetrically about w2, so that both
w2 are equidistance from the C.G of the slab panel.
To get the M.B due to w2, B.M is calculated from both patch 1 and patch 2, the half of
difference between B.M of both patch gives the B.M of wheel w2.

In this figure, IRC 70R load arrangement is given. The maximum load is 17 ton(170kN)
ton and17 ton(170kN) for one pair of wheel and are c/c spaced at 1.37m, so analysis is
carried out with maximum load on wheel i.e. 170kN and maximum load on single wheel
is 85kN ton, half of 170 kN.
For IRC 70R vehicle, the maximum typre pressure is 5.273kg/cm2, as shown in figure for
