INTRODUCTION

Education helps people increase their knowledge and improve their skills and

talents. But this time, there is a huge barrier to every student’s success, which is the

pandemic that we are experiencing. The pandemic interrupts the education worldwide,

and the Philippines is not an exemption. As a result, the government and the

Department of Education decided to implement the distance learning system. The

distance learning system is categorized into modular, blended and online learning.

Online learning or online-class is a course conducted over the internet, is currently

affecting the part-time working students attending Philippine Women’s University

CDCEC- Baguio City. Part- time working students are the students who works at the

same time goes to school or attends online-class. As Paul Barron Constantia

Anastasiadou (2009) says that students doing part-time job can become a good person

through the experience and knowledge acquired.

Students having a part-time jobs and online-class has its own advantages, such as

to avoid debt and even learn how to manage their own money. That aside, they can

learn how to manage their own money as to how much will they give their family.

And its disadvantages are also unavoidable such as being distracted from their studies.

This coild lead to bad grades and poor performance in both academic and in the

students’ work.

Schramm (1977) suggested that learning is influenced more by the content and

instructional strategy in the learning materials than by the type of technology used to

deliver instruction. Previous studies also have shown interactive activities as one of

the factors that affect the learning outcome of students ( Kayode &Teng, 2014) .

This study focuses on the life of part-time working senior high school students

attending Philippine Women’s University CDCEC- Baguio City. Students attending

both their part-time jobs and their online-class are observed to be different from those

students who are financially supported by their parents/guardians. Because their

academic performance as well as their grades is observed to be low. As Jewell (2014)

said working while studying is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon

among students in the Philippines.

Because of the financial problem, those who are studying needs to find to support

their education and even their family needs. Thus, the purpose of the study is to

answer 1) How are the effects of online classes to the part-time jobs of the students; 2)

How are the effects of online classes to working students.

This study will contribute to the working and non- working students in all grade

level. It will benefit all parents and guardians, this study can help them to plan on

their child’s future to at least avoid this kind of hardship. Also it will benefit the

students, by elaborating the struggles of every working students can improve other

student aging 15-20 years old.
