Lesson 3: Kite
Objective:
The learner will be able to:
Define what is kite
Instructional Materials:
Second Edition; Next Century Mathematics

WHAT TO KNOW:

Kite

A kite is another type of a quadrilateral. It has two distinct pairs of adjacent congruent sides.
Quadrilateral ABCD below is a kite.
D

C A

B
´ ≅ AD
In kite ABCD, AB ´ and BC
´ ≅ DC
´ . The two segments AC
´ and BD
´ are its diagonals.

 If a quadrilateral is a kite then its diagonals are perpendicular.

 If exactly one diagonal of a quadrilateral is the perpendicular bisector of the other diagonal, then
the quadrilateral is a kite.
 The area of a kite is half the product of the lengths of its diagonals.

WHAT TO process:

Your goal in this section is to apply the key concepts of Trapezoids. Use
the mathematical ideas and the examples presented in the preceding section 1
to answer the evaluation provided.
DAY
EVALUATION:
2

A. Determine whether each statement is true or false. If false explain why.

1. A kite is a polygon.
_________________________________________________________________________
2. Every quadrilateral is a kite.
_________________________________________________________________________
3. The area of a kite is equal to the product of the length of its diagonals.
_________________________________________________________________________
4. One of the diagonals of a kite is the perpendicular bisector of the other diagonal.
_________________________________________________________________________
5. A kite has two distinct pairs of congruent consecutive sides.
_________________________________________________________________________

Summary/Synthesis/Generalization:

This lesson was about quadratic functions on how Trapezoids relate to

quadratic functions. This will help you develop higher order thinking
skills.
