Introduction

A Solar PV system is a system that converts sunlight or solar irradiance into electrical

energy for consumers. Because solar PV is a renewable energy source, it is a safe and

convenient solution. An inverter, battery storage, charge controller, PV array, and solar

irradiance are the components of a PV system for AC load. A charge controller, a PV array,

and solar irradiance are all needed for a DC load. The solar PV system is a type of renewable

energy that can be generated by sunlight, so it can be useful when there is an unexpected

power outage. In addition, the monthly electric bill can be reduced. Finally, it is ideal for off-

grid areas with no electricity and is environmentally friendly. Solar energy technology has

progressed. The components of a Solar PV system are no longer as expensive as they once

were. Small islands may be able to benefit from this. A household rooftop can be an alternative

or possible resource for creating a solar PV system, even though it takes up a lot of areas.

Software tools are increasingly being utilized to evaluate a PV system's production.

PVsyst is a piece of software that analyzes the output of a photovoltaic system. It could be a

stand-alone and grid-connected pumping DC-grid PV system. The initial stage in the PVsyst

system design panel is to specify the available space as well as the needed power. The PV

module and inverter are then selected from the internal database. PVsyst 3D shading scene

generation, layout, manipulation, and creation of a user-friendly item should be easy to import

to Sketchup or PV plane and import the shading scene to Sketchup or AutoCAD. What are

the benefits of using the PVsyst software tool? The PVsyst can calculate and analyze system

sizing based on the requirements. Also, it simulates the potential site for energy generation

and ensures that each component is compatible.

4
Objectives

• To design a PV system with at least 80% performance ratio.

• To accurately analyze different configurations and evaluate the results on the PV

system that will be placed on our previous house design.

• To determine if our previous house design meets the energy consumption to the PV

system that we design.

• To broaden our knowledge in using PVsyst software and apply it on future studies.

Scope of the activity

PVsyst modeling and simulation are the emphases of this research. The project is to

mimic the house's circumstances without requiring users to tinker with the technology. Based

on the requirements, the project calculates and analyzes system sizing. The results of this

study are applicable to PVsyst simulation users, engineers, system designers, and those who

are going to design or build an efficient and low-cost dwelling.

Methodology

First thing we do is to decide which of this group member’s house will be used as a

model for the PVsyst simulation, so we choose Dadula residence. We will follow the general

instruction of the diagram below.

5
Figure 1. Graphical Presentation of PVsyst Simulation

According to the diagram, we will open the PVsyst application then proceed to the next

step which is to create project then set the site.

6
Figure 2. Geographical Site Parameters Interactive Map

Figure 3. Geographical Site Parameters Geographical Coordinates

As seen in Fig.2, we will click “New Site”, then we will locate the desired location of the

residence we would like to simulate, so the site is located in Maljo Philippines with Latitude of

7
10.5099 Latitude and 124.7533 Longitude with 7m Altitude. In Figure 3, we will set the Meteo

data Import to Meteonorm 8.0 then click “Import” After that we will proceed to set our user

needs.

Figure 4. Daily use of energy (Consumption)

8
Figure 5. Daily use of Energy (Hourly Distribution)

In this step, we will set the User’s needs in which we will declare all the loads uses in

the desired residence then we will set the schedule when we will use the loads we declare.

After doing all this, we will proceed to Near Shadings.

9
Figure 6. Elementary Shading Object (Object Definition)

Figure 7. Shading Scene Construction

10
Figure 8. PV Table

In this step, we will set the model of the building we desired, in Fig.6 we will set the

height, length and width of the building in a house with two-sided roof then in Fig.7 we will set

the PV panel and in Fig.8 we will set the size of the PV panel we will use. Then after that, we

will set the systems.

Figure 9. Stand Alone System (Storage)

11
Figure 10. Stand Alone System (PV Array)

In Fig.9, we will set the storage to 4 batteries in series and also parallel then we will

set to All Manufactures and Lead-acid and set to “12V 200Ah Pb Sealed Gel MPG 12V 200

Narada” then in Fig 10, we set the PV module to All Modules and All manufacturers to have

many option then select “380 Wp 32V HIT REC380AA Black REC Manufacturer 2021”, for

the mode and controller, we will check the Universal Controller then All Manufacturers and

also MPPT converter. For the the PV Array design, the Mod. In series is 4 then the No. of

strings is 1. After setting the system, we will see the Variants’ main parameters and optional

are green then run the simulation, once it has high performance ratio then it is good.

18
Figure 18. Loss Diagram

Results shows that the performance ratio shows minimal results because of the site of

the building but still it has good results because the loss diagram shows less loss in which is

the energy will be balanced. If there is low performance ratio, the panel would easily be

destroyed and it can be dangerous. The only thing to do in order to have high performance

ratio is that to balance the load and the PV designs.

This simulation is pretty handful for designing the PV panels to the best that it could so

that the funds spent on it will be worth it and can prevent some risk. Elevating the use of the

19
sun’s capacity is good since we can have free energy by using PV Panels and PVsyst would

be the best partner in order to design the best PV Panels for a specific household.

Conclusions

This activity enables us to design a PV system that shows 80.4% performance ratio.

In the simulation, the system and the near shadings should be related so that we can have a

high-performance ratio for the PV system and also the loads we declared in the building we

simulated should be related and well balanced, the system capacity should be enough to

power loads of the building residence then the system should not be too big for loads of the

buildings so that the loss will be lessened and will have a high-performance ratio. PVsyst is a

very handful of software for building solar panels in such areas because we can design and

simulate the specs we designed before spending for it, sun’s power can give us free energy

that’s why we have PVsyst software to maximize the use of it.
