Experiment – 4: performance analysis of a single-phase half-wave & full wave controlled rectifier

Objective: The main objectives of this experiments is given below:

1. Understand and learn how diode characteristics are used to rectify three-phase AC voltage to

DC voltage.

2. Learn the advantages of full-wave rectifiers over half-wave rectifiers.

3. Learn the advantages of controlled rectifiers over uncontrolled rectifiers.

4. Learn how gate signals are generated for controlled rectification.

Theory:

The device which converts ac voltage into dc voltage is called rectifiers. Rectifiers produce

unidirectional & pulsating voltage from the ac source. Rectifiers offer low resistance to the flow

of current in one direction & high resistance to flow of current in the opposite direction that is

rectifier converts AC into DC. This conversion is achieved by rectifier supplied with AC signal

using step down transformer. The output contains pulsating DC (ripple voltage) which can be

removed by using a filter circuit. we have to design using PSIM. It is easy to design on the PSIM

Circuit
Design for Half Wave Rectifier

Design for Full Wave Rectifier

Discussion: Here, we have found a three phase half-wave and full-wave controlled

rectifier in PSIM. As a result, we have been able to make a beautiful visual by the circuit

diagram. Therefore, our diagram of any math will be easy to solve.
