Rectifiers are the part of the circuit that converts alternating current to direct current.
In our experiment, we use connecting wires, resistors, trainer, oscillosope, diode and capacitor
to perform it. We are given three circuits in which we must construct in the breadboard and
measure on the oscilloscope. First, we construct a single diode connected series with a resistor
which will be supplied by the transformer. This method is called half wave rectification. In this
wave, the negative part of wave is cut. The positive wave remains and the clipped negative
wave are changed to 0. The dc voltage is converted but it's on and off in an orderly pattern.
Next is the second circuit. 2 diodes are placed. One on the upper and the other on the lower
both facing and connected to a resistor. In the circuit, we are able to get a full wave. This full
wave rectification occur since in the positive cycle, the upper diode will be forward biased and
the other one will be reversed allowing the current to pass directly resulting to positive wave. In
the negative cycle, it is vice versa. This continuous positive wave is better since it does not turn
off. The third circuit which is the last is a fullwave rectifier with filter. In the circuit. We add a
capacitor which will act as a filter. The peak voltage we got in the output is almost same. But
the wave is different now. The height of the wave becomes smaller and farther from 0 volts.
