Introductory Message
Welcome to Mathematics 10!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts

of the Schools Division of Guimaras and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western
Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division
(CLMD). This is developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers,
parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners meet the standards
set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials

aimed to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and
time using the contextualized resources in the community. This will also
assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and
attitudes for productivity and employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Mathematics 10 Learning Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This
will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the
independent learning.

For the learner:

The Mathematics 10 Learning Activity Sheet is developed to help you

continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active
learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the activities
and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed
schedule.

Understanding, Describing, and Interpreting the

Graphs of Polynomial Functions
I. Learning Competency with Code
Understand, describe and interpret the graphs of polynomial functions

II. Background Information for Learners

In this lesson, you need to recall previous concepts on

evaluating and factoring polynomials, solving polynomial equations,
and drawing by point-plotting. Your learnings on these topics will help
you in sketching the graph of polynomial functions manually. To have
a clearer view and an easy way of describing the features of the graph,
you can also use graphing applications/tools. Learning to graph
polynomial functions needs appreciation of its behavior and other
properties.

IV. Activity Proper

Activity 1

Instructions: Do the following activities found in your Mathematics 10

Learner’s Module.

A. In order to understand further the concepts associated with

polynomial functions as well as their graphs and features, read
pages 109 – 110.

B. Do the following Activities and answer the given questions. Write

your answers on your answer sheet.

➢ Activity 6: Give Me More Companions, on page 111. Assume

that you’re working with your friends.
➢ Activity 7: What is the destiny of my behavior, on page 112.
➢ Activity 8: Sign on and Sketch Me, on page 115.
➢ Activity 9: Follow My Path, on pages 115 – 117.

Activity 2

Complete the table. In the last column, show how the function behaves by
sketching a possible graph for the function. (Placing your graph on xy-plane is
not needed). The first polynomial function is done for you.

Behavior of the
Leading Graph:
Coefficient Degree Rising or Falling
Polynomial
Possible
Function
n>0 or Even or Left- Right- Sketch
Value Value
n<0 Odd hand hand

y = 3x3- 5x2 - 5x + 2 3 n>0 3 Odd falling rising

1) y = -2x5 + 3x4+ x3 - 4x2 + 1

2) y = 2x4 - 3x2 + 5x

3) y = -3x4 +x3 +10x2 -8x -8

Activity 3

To summarize what you have learned in this lesson, answer the

following questions.
1) How will you describe the graph of polynomial functions if the degree
is:
a. odd number and the leading coefficient is positive?

b. odd number and the leading coefficient is negative?

c. even number and the leading coefficient is positive?

d. even number and the leading coefficient is negative?

2) What are the two properties of showing the graph of polynomial function?

V. Reflection

In this lesson, I learned that
