METHODOLOGY

This chapter deals with the research design and methodology that intended to employ in

this study, the respondents, sampling procedure, the instruments that will used to gather the

needed data, gathering procedures, and the statistical tools that were utilized in the analysis of

data. Furthermore, the ethical considerations and confidentiality aspects were addressed.

Research Design

This study will employ the use of the descriptive-quantitative research design it was

intended to use to describe the profile of the respondents as well as the discussion on the major

components of the Effects of Social Media Platforms to students’ academic performance in the

New Normal. The inferential method was intended to use to draw conclusions in this study.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study are the Grade 12 students in the Cauayan City National

High School-Research Annex. The participants are totaled of 51 students showed in Table 1.

The Sample and Sampling Technique

The researchers will use total enumeration technique in choosing the respondents for this

study. In this type of purposive sampling technique the researchers choose to examine the entire

populations that have particular set of characteristics.

Table 1: Distribution of the Cauayan City National High School-Research Annex Respondents as to Strand:
STRAND NUMBER OF RESPONDENTS PERCENTGE
Technical Vocational and 33.33%
17
Livelihood
General Academic 34 66.66%
TOTAL 51 100%

Research Instrument

The instruments that will utilize to collect data from the respondents are the online survey

questionnaire or using of Google Forms which is the most suitable method of collecting data in

the present time that was adapted from Impact of social media on academic performance and

interpersonal relation: A cross-sectional study among students at a tertiary medical center in East

India and Social Networking Usage Questionnaire: Development and Validation in an Indian
Higher Education Context. The first part was designed to obtain the demographic profile of the

respondents, their Name, Gender, Grade Levels, General Average and Household Income. It was

also intended to gather the perspective of the respondents about the Effects of Social Media

Platforms to Students Academic Performance in the New Normal Education.

The second were 2 statements in the checklist in which the respondents will check basing

from social media they use commonly for academic and recreational activities which was

adapted from Impact of social media on academic performance and interpersonal relation: A

cross-sectional study among students at a tertiary medical center in East India.

The last part were 19 statements in the checklist in which the respondents will check

basing from a 5-point Likert Scale from Level 1: Strongly Agree to Level 5: Strongly Disagree

as part of the research instrument which was adapted from Social Networking Usage

Questionnaire: Development and Validation in an Indian Higher Education Context.

Data-Gathering Procedure

To determine Effects of Social Media Platforms to Students Academic Performance in the

New Normal Education, the process of disseminating questionnaires will be through Google

forms to the respondents. Also, the researchers will coordinate with schools as they float the

questionnaires to their respondents. To ensure the validity of the result, the researchers will make

sure that the respondents are of the informal sector and that they have answered all items in the

questionnaire honestly.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Descriptive statistics such as counts, frequencies, means, percentages, and the Effects of

Social Media Platforms to Students’ Academic performance in the New Normal Education will

be used. The 5-pt Likert Scale will be used to determine the Effects of social media platforms to

students’ academic performance as shown in table below.

Scale Effects of social media platforms to students’ academic performance
5- 4.50-5.00 Strongly Agree
4- 3.50-4.49 Agree
3- 2.50-3.49 Neither/Nor Agree

2- 1.50-2.49 Disagree

1-1.00-1.49 Strongly Disagree
