A) LIKE SIGNS,
RULE: IN ADDING INTEGERS SIMILAR OR LIKE SIGNS,
GET THE SUM OF THEIR ABSOLUTE VALUES AND PREFIX
THE COMMON SIGN,
EXAMPLE:
1. 3+5+6+7 = 8+6+7
=14 + 7
= 21
2. 3 +(+5) +(+6) +(+7) = 8 + (+6) +(+7)
= 21
3. -3+(-5)+(-6)+(-7) = -8 +(-6)+(-7)
= -14 + (-7)
= -21
B. UNLIKE SIGNS
Rule: In addition Integers having unlike signs, get the difference of their
absolute value and prefix the signs of the integers with the greater value.
EXAMPLES:
1. 15 + (-10) = +5 = 5
2. -15 + 10 = -5
3. (-15) + (+10) = -5
4. 2 +(-3) +(+4) + (-5) = -1 +(+4) +(-5)
= (+3) + (-5)
= -2

HAVING LIKE SIGNS IS
POSITIVE.
EXAMPLE:
1. (+12) + (+13) = +156 = 156

3. (-12)(-13) = +156 = 156
4. -12(-13) = 156
B. UNLIKE SIGNS
RULE: THE SIGN OF THE PRODUCT OF THE TWO

IS NEGATIVE.
