COURSE OBJECTIVES
 To impart knowledge on CAD entities
 To provide the knowledge of modelling of Curves and Surfaces
 To appreciate the knowledge of Finite Element Methods
 To impart knowledge on Virtual Prototyping
UNIT 1: CAD FUNDAMENTALS AND GRAPHICS 8 Hrs.
Introduction to CAD its benefits, CAD programming, Need and scope of computer aided design, Scan
conversion, DDA and Bresenham’s Algorithm of line, circle and ellipse.
UNIT 2: GEOMETRIC TRANSFORMATIONS 9 Hrs.
2D and 3D geometric transformations: Translation, Scaling, Rotation, Reflection, Homogeneous
transformations, Orthographic and Affine transformations.
UNIT 3: CURVES AND SURFACES 14 Hrs.
Parametric representation of synthetic curves: Hermit cubic splines, Bezier curves, B-splines, NURBS,
constructive solid geometry, Introduction to Surfaces, Introduction to Reverse Engineering, surface generation
using 2D curves/views, Introduction to Virtual prototyping and augmented reality, Case Studies

UNIT 4: FINITE ELEMENT METHOD 14 Hrs.


Introduction, FEM procedure, Discretization of the Domain, Interpolation Models, Higher Order and
Isoparametric Elements, Derivation of Element Matrices, Assembly of Element Matrices, Derivation of
System Equations, Numerical Solution, Basic Equations and Solution Procedure, Analysis of Trusses, Beams.
