TOPIC/LESSON Identifying the Inquiry and Stating the Problem


The learner demonstrates understanding of (1) the range of research topics in the area of inquiry
CONTENT STANDARDS
(2) the value of research in the area of interest, and (3) the specificity and feasibility of the problem posed.
PERFORMANCE
The learner is able to formulate clearly statement of research problem.
STANDARDS
The learner (1) designs a research project related to daily life, (2) writes a research title, (3) describes the
LEARNING justifications/reasons for conducting the research, (4) states research questions, (5) indicates scope and
COMPETENCIES delimitation of research, (6) cites benefits and beneficiaries of research, and (7) presents written statement
of the problem.
At the end of this lesson, the students should be able to:
 Distinguish a good research topic from a bad one;
 Characterize a researchable topic;
 Narrow down a general topic into a smaller one; and
SPECIFIC LEARNING
 Choose a good research topic;
OUTCOMES
 Define research question and a research problem;
 Give the relationship between research problem and research question;
 Formulate correct research questions; and
 Justify the essence of having background knowledge of the problem

previous topic. Online wheel be used in this instruction.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
 What are the guidelines in choosing a research topic?
 What are some research topics to be avoided?

INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY
 Present to the students a list of topics to trigger whatever schemata they have about each of the
topics listed.
 Hasten their recall of prior knowledge of a topic in the list by giving out keywords about each
topic.
 The teacher will discuss about the guidelines in choosing a research topic and topics to be
avoided in research.
 Have the students identify research expressions described in class.
 Name a research topic the students want to describe accurately.
 Elicit students’ experiences or concepts about several highly technical terms used in the text by
