TEST DESCRIPTION
Background:
There are the indications shown visually in the middle of slot circumference.
Those indications are various dimension intermittent and continuously circumference.

TEST DESCRIPTION-continued

The indications are tended to propagates and become to be initial bigger cracking.
The location of indications is complex and tight to reached by other test method.
The depth of those indications is one of many factors that can be including to the
determination of rotor inspection acceptances. Deeper the indications faster the failure risk
possibility.
Rotor are turbine component that rotate with certain rpm and contain many risks to the
whole secure of turbine unit. The indication has a higher stress level than around of it. If the
small piece of metal that originated from blade or other parts are released due to failure of
its strength to resists from turbine centrifuge energy, while the rotor are in high rotating
operation, the serious damage will occurs and effect to the turbine unit system operation.

TEST METHOD : - Optical Microscopic

This measurement method practically can be used to determine the depth of those indication
such as the case.
There are F1 or first focus scaled to null and F2 or second focus as far distances of pit/crack
bottom. Then the delta distances of them are the value of the depth measured.

Micrometerscope

δ=F2–F1
F1 = Focus on surface Null Scaled
F2 = Focus on bottom of
crack δ = Depth of crack
