REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES AND LITERATURE

This chapter provides fundamental background for the discussion and consideration in formulating the
present study. The related literature are arranged from foreign sources to local to provide a clearer view
of the discussion of cited materials.

Related Literature

Nowadays modern technology has brought new innovation to document management practices ranging
from electronic document management systems and allowing the document be accessed by the
employees in a single location to now be efficiently used and shared from anywhere with a secure
internet connection. (McHugh, 2019),

Moreover, Ben, Henry, and Iriaoghuan (2015) developed an ―Online Clearance System‖ which served as
a more reliable and efficient mechanism undertaken for students clearance, eliminated all forms of
delay and stress, enabled the users to understand the procedure involved as well as how to do the
approval online.

A. Foreign

Verlaan P.M. (2016) indicated that Employee Self-Service Portals give employees one place
where they can find all information and services. Employee portals can be personalized so that
only the features and resources the employees may need are available. Furthermore, the main
reasons for organizations to implement self-service portals are cost reduction and improvement
of employee satisfaction. The study of Verlaan is related to the proposed system because the
developed system is a self–service and be implemented to the university. Also, the aim of the
proposed system is to reduce time cosumption and to improve employee satisfaction.

Humaidi, N. et. al (2017) explored User’s Experience using E-Notification Management System
and found that the e-notification management system improved user’s compliance behavior
towards Information Security Policies (ISPs). Moreover, majority of the participants 12 were
satisfied with the system and hoped to give more benefits to the organizations in implementing
and distributing ISPs systematically, particularly in the healthcare sector.

B. Local

For example, Lumauag (2016) in his study ―School Event Notification Through SMS (SENT SMS)‖
focused on the benefits of the students, teachers, and parents in receiving first- hand
information from the school right into their mobile phone. In this system, teachers receive
notification for the schedule of meetings, emergency meetings, and deadlines of requirements
and parents are informed about school activities and made aware of the activity of their children
in school. This study is similar to the proposed system since the with the proposed system, the
employees will be sent SMS notifications about the status of their travel order request
Another system that is related with the proposed study is that of Rosario, Rosario, Nieva, Tan,
and Tangkeko (2016) the ―Portal with Electronic Document Management System for the
Information Technology Department under the College of Computer Studies of De La Salle
University-Manila.‖ The system covers the entire thesis process as well as the document
management of the different thesis documents. The primary goal of this system is to provide a
portal that can improve better track and manage the thesis cycle. Similar with their study, the
preset study provides the employees a portal to manage and track their application for travel
order
