ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY ABOUT WOMEN’S WORK 2

Introduction

The paper is an argumentative essay on why women should work and not stay at home. In the

initial days, women were confined in their homes. They remained in the houses on a full-time

basis as housewives. Their spouses were the breadwinners for the family. A lot of people still

believe that women should stay at home. The belief that women should not be allowed to work.

The women in the 21st-century share equivalent responsibilities with men. They help in

improving the nation (White, 1995). An example of women leaders who will forever remain in

the hearts of many is Catherine of great Russia and queen Elizabeth of England. They have

m
er as
proved to be outstanding leaders across the world. Women are equally essential as men; hence,

co
eH w
men should understand their importance in society. The essay will, therefore, highlight why

women should work and oppose the argument on why women should not work.

Work will improve women’s self-esteem and emotional health

vi y re

There are some of the people who do not think that women should work. Some of the people in
ed d

society that women should not stay at home. Work will build woman self-esteem and emotional
ar stu

health. It is believed that women who do not work will have problems with their health. Women

should be allowed to reduce cases of stress. Women are subjected to different environments far
is

from their homes will build their interrelationships with others. Working women also face a
Th

number of challenges. They suffer stress because of multiple roles assigned to them and long
sh

working hours. It will result in depression and poor mental concentration.

Defence of the argument

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY ABOUT WOMEN’S WORK 3

I agree with the fact that women need to work. Women should not only stay in the house but go

out and explore the world. It is not a good idea a woman spending much of their time working in

the house. Sometimes it can become tiresome for them. They will be engaged too much into

home kinds of stuff and forget about the world. Women who stay too much at home will not be

overexposed information. These women, on most occasion, will have emotional problems.

Women that stay at home are likely to develop low self-esteem. Work exposes women to

different opportunities. The women will be able to work in a different environment far from their

homes.

m
er as
According to sociologist Jerry Jacobs and psychologist Ingrid Waldron, they believe that women

co

who work are bonded with their family and work. They handle different responsibilities, and

o.
rs e
they are emotionally and physically fit. Working women have better emotional health, which
ou urc
involves the wellbeing of their psychological state of handling various difficulties and situations.
o

The University of California Berkeley stated that different working women develop better

emotional health and country and are reported to be in a position of managing different roles and

responsibilities. The University of Michigan also stated that women who engage working reduce
ed d

the levels of distress unlike those that do not work. It has also been proven that women that do
ar stu

not work can suffer from chronic conditions like disillusionalisation and frustration.
is

Employment also boosts a woman’s self-esteem. Self-esteem determines how different people
Th

assess their thoughts and how they communicate with others. It helps one to achieve integrity.

Kerslake and cooper stated that women that are employed engage in multiple roles in their
sh

homes and workplace. Work helps them build their social network as they encounter different

people. Unemployed women, on the other hand, are tied to their homes hence have no

opportunity of meeting different people.

Opposing argument

On the other hand, women should be allowed to work. They should not be allowed to work in the

same capacity as that of men. Women should not be allowed to be breadwinners. In cases of war

or poverty in society, women can be called to work. In typical cases, women should not work as

men. Some of the women in the community do not work because of passion, but they do it based

on feminism ideologies (Rout, Cooper & Kerslake, 1997). They think that they can fulfil their

needs without the help of men. Women should not work the same capacity of men because they

have children to look after. Women should, therefore, not be allowed to work because they have

m
er as
other responsibilities. They need to ensure that everything in their houses is at its place because

co
eH w
they are the managers of the house.

men. The state is reflected by the kind of governance from its people. Men reflect the state. Men

that get cornered by their wives; it means that the country will not manage its responsibilities.

The women are, therefore supposed to stay and maintain their homes. The family is the core unit
ed d

in a state. The wife should, therefore, ensure that the family is stable. A stable family means that

the government will be able to achieve its responsibilities.

is

The other reason why women should not work is the fact that they cannot handle some
Th

responsibilities. Women cannot work in harsh conditions. Women are not designed to work in
sh

harsh conditions; thus they give up easily. They need to handle less tiresome things. For instance,

a country like Iran needs a leader who’s dedicated to leading. A woman can not control the

position due to pressure from outside forces. The woman, therefore, needs to stay at home or

handle light responsibilities that do not require many efforts.

The other reason is that women once they start working, they forget about their responsibilities

as wives. Women, once they have an opportunity to get hold of a large amount of money, they

forget about their problems at home. Some start thinking about how men are of less value to

them. They start acting as the men of the house (Johnson, 2012). They forget that they have a

role of uniting the home, taking care of the children and their husbands. Issues arise in the family

due to this; hence, divorce cases occur in the family. The women want to live their independent

er as
lives away from men because the work can support their needs.

Analysis

The first argument illustrates why women should work. The women need to boost their careers

and not depend on their men for everything. Working women will help their men in different
o
aC s

aspects. The other thing with working women is that they will build a robust social network. It
vi y re

will help boost their self-esteem and emotion health. Women who stay at home are likely to

suffer from stress (Hackett & Betz, 1981). They need something that will keep them busy apart
ed d
ar stu

from their daily chores. Working women will also become more responsible. The University of

Michigan clearly states that working women successfully manage their roles and responsibilities.
is

The other argument as to why women should not work, has fewer effects on women. Most
Th

women have risen high in their careers and are taking good care of their homes. It believed that

women who work disrespect their husbands hence failing to take care of their homes. They end
sh

up living a different life far from their men. The first argument is much stronger and supports the

fact that women should work. Women are not meant to stay in their homes only. They need a

different life apart from their homes. They should be allowed to work to boost their social

network and also help build their careers.

Conclusion

Women need to treat with dignity and respect in society. They should not be viewed only as

housewives. The organization should have a better mindset that women need to engage in

different activities apart from their homes. Women can manage various duties as parenting,

domestic responsibilities and work. In the US, the number of women working each year is

increasing. Women can also achieve what men can do. The society can, therefore, support the

fact that women should be allowed to work.
