FNDMATH Problem Set # 2

to print this sheet, but please copy the given when doing your solution.
2. The deadline of this Problem Set is on Thursday, February 7, 2019. This is to be submitted first thing during class.

I. Word Problems
1. Gabby is 1 year more than twice Larry's age. 3 years from now, Megan will be 27 less than twice Gabby's
age. 4 years ago, Megan was 1 year less than 3 times Larry's age. How old will Megan be 3 years from
now?
2. Two cars depart from the same point at the same time. Car A travels north at a speed of 30 kph, while
Car B travels east at a speed of 40 kph. How long will it take before the distance between the two cars is
120 km?
3. A shopkeeper sells raisins for $3.20 per pound and nuts for $2.40 per pound. He decides to mix the
raisins and nuts and sell 50lb of the mixture for $2.96 per pound. What quantities of raisins and nuts
should he use?
4. Peter is practicing for a track and field meet. On a 1.5 km stretch, he begins running, but as he reached
¾ of the way, he got tired and walked the rest of the way. His running speed is twice as fast as his
walking speed. If the total time it took him to finish the stretch was 625 seconds, how fast is his running
speed?
