1. What can you say about the learning environment you had before?

Our leaning environment before we're simple yet effective. It was plain and simple because the
school during our time lacks resources, from facilities to science laboratory equipment. Also, we mainly
focus our learning on books and other vocational skills, it may not be complete in terms of its facilities,
however, still it was an effective learning environment. The faculty staff was a mix of a traditional and
modern teacher, working together and catering to our needs with the limited resources on hand. In that
sense, it was admirable and noteworthy, to have teachers who gave their best in teaching students through
various strategies and be able to manage and stretched out the resources needed to address the learners'
needs.

2. In your own point of view, how do you think your teacher can further promote a fair learning
environment? Cite examples.

A teacher can further promote fairness by giving equal opportunities and being a role model.
Giving students the reigns with certain things in the classroom will make them feel trusted and responsible.
By showing students that you have confidence in their abilities, they will feel like the overall management
and flow of the classroom is up to them to uphold as well. As a teacher, you make sure that you keep your
word and follow up with anything you commit if one of your rules is to have students show up to class on
time every day, make sure that you practice those same rules yourself. If you are late, then you risk setting
a bad example for your students. Also, remember to never- ever make favorites in a classroom.
Think ahead!

1. What do you think could have contributed to the presence or absence of a fair learning
environment in previous classroom?

The teacher’s attitude and approach have a big impact on us as a student. Being amiable and strict
to the rules is admirable, giving us an equal opportunity to address our needs, thus making the lessons
interesting. For me, these are some of the many that contribute to the presence of a fair learning
environment. I also believe that one of the absences in creating a fair environment is not allowing learners
to speak up their ideas and be subject to the ideals of the teachers. A fair environment should foster
respect for the ideas of the students.

2. How does a fair learning environment affect the way children learn? Support your answer with
familiar situation.

Creating a fair learning environment where there are equality and comfort is the key to keep
students interested and engaged in their work/ task, and more likely to comply with any classroom's rules.
It is essential, not only for teacher’s peace of mind to allow them to properly control their classroom but
it is imperative for a positive and flourishing learning environment for students. For instance, a teacher
should consider all the facts in a situation/ idea before making a decision. Balancing out the pros and
cons of an action/idea or choice helps individuals make fair choices or judgments.

Read and Ponder

Providing a safe learning environment to students is any teacher’s goal. Thus, to ensure that
students feel safe, a teacher should allow students to be themselves, commit mistakes, and be in a fair
environment. A fair learning environment promotes teaching that considers varied mode of delivery
for all lessons. This does not enforce uniformed expectations to all students as well as the academic
experiences all the time. But instead, this offers lessons, strategies and challenges which addresses
student’s individual needs.

Teachers who give great importance to academic achievements bring about inequalities in
the classroom because this often alienate students that are not as gifted academically as the others.
Spratt and Florian (2013) describe a fair learning environment as a place that promotes an inclusive
pedagogy which delivers diverse experiences, activities and opportunities. Hart et.al. (2004) also
supported that an inclusive pedagogy endorses a fair learning environment because students are
given the chance to acquire knowledge from a series of opportunities and experiences by the teacher.
Thus, it is very vital for teachers to adopt various teaching techniques that suit the different learning
capabilities of the students.
See if you can do this!
